Hello everyone from cold snowy Edmonton Canada. I am a new owner/ rider of a 2007 xb12r firebolt and couldn't be any more excited for the summer season to come around. Ive been lurking the forum for a couple weeks now and have noticed that some members have both projector lights turn on with low beams. My bike, and I'm sure many others only have one turn in with low beams. Is there a way to modify this. I was thinking about putting bixenon projectors in place of the stock lights since I have a set of old headlights laying around. Just trying to find out which is easier and do-able?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome!! Ur going to like this place a lot! IMO I would go with HID's, look at davexb12r I believe he and several others have done this mod. Good luck and rubber down!

Welcome! Switching the lights is easy. The plug to the headlights has a black, white, orange and yellow wire. Two of the wires don't get switch, I don't remember which 2 but you'll find it if you search the forum.

The only difference is that both lights are on when you have the high beam turned on, it's still just one light on low beam. Both bulbs are dedicated brightness too, so when both lights are on you'll have one high beam and one low beam. You don't want them to both come on for low beam or else you'd always be blinding people at night. Also, I've heard rumors of peoples batteries not staying charged with the drain of both lights, so I was afraid to try it. Sometimes I just put my light switch middle of hi/low. Then both come on, and you don't actually have to do modifications.

As it is right now, both lights come on when the high beams are switched. I was just wondering if I could have both lights functioning as low and high beams together( both low together, both high together)

As far as pictures go, nothing yet. I'm picking the bike up this coming weekend so hopefully then. It's black with red anodized wheels and graphics. It has a jardine carbon fiber exhaust and buell race ECM also installed on it already.

As far as the both high both low thing, you would have to rewire the headlight and find different bulbs to fit (double filament) the high/low difference is just a "spoon" shaped reflector inside the low beam housing no other real difference. Inside a Low beam light below.

Surf through the DIY threads and I am sure you will find a few mods you will like.

Oh and welcome:D

Welcome to the Forum! I haven't done the Light Mod . due to i hate dead Batteries. And if i'm in an area i just turn on the high beam & run like that. This way if i get pulled over maybe i'll get lucky. Have fun making the Buell your own. [cool]

thanks for all the welcomes! i think when i have some spare time i'm going to install a bi-xenon setup with a spare pair of projectors i have from some headlights that i have kicking around. that's if they'll mount up easy. thanks for all the links and references. i'll put pictures up once i have the bike in my possesion.

Welcome to the forum. Regarding running with both headlights on, I do it all the time and have had no issues with battery charge. The bulbs are single filament, and from what I can see, both headlight housings are identical. The only difference between high & low beam is the metal "spoon" shaped piece, which is in front of the low beam light. I acquired another one of these and screwed it into the high beam light housing, and now I have two identical low beams, which look uniform, and work great as day riding lamps. I rarely ride at night, so a lack of high beam doesn't matter to me.

this is done on a lightening, but the concept should be the same.
Incorrect, the Firebolts already function this way from the factory. To the OP: you do not need to do any re-wiring of your lights, all is well with them as is. To get them functioning as both hi AND both low...you would need to come up with something pretty custom, as mentioned above.

Thunderbolts already have both lights on for high beam.
Also incorrect, Thunderbolts only have 1 headlight. :D
