Hey everybody. I just bought an '05 xb12r and absolutely love it. I have been lookin for a good place to chat and hopefully pick up some tips and tricks. So far the only thing i have noticed is the headers get pretty warm. Anyone got suggestions/prefs as to wraps vs. covers?

I wrapped mine, it helped a little. Some people prefer to get them ceramic coated. I want to try the under-seat heat shield to keep the cheeks cool.

I'm pretty new here as well (and new to Buell) but this seems like a pretty good place. A lot of knowledgeable people here willing to help.

As far as suggestions, I'd advise you to keep it on 2 wheels. ;)

Welcome.

Just search the site for wraps, look for anything written by or commented on LeFox, that guy definately knows his stuff, and is always willing to help, any questions you have, search the site for before you post, it will save you time on having to wait for an answer that may already be there for you. If you ever have any parts questions, BPG (BuellPartsGuy) will have the answer, and he has his own section for you to post in. As for the heat, Ceramic coatind and or header wraps, just like Buellysses said. I have seed people do both, but a header wrap looks good, and is often cheaper as you can usually do it yourself in just a day or two (depends on how motivated you are). Hope we've helped.

Like I said, answer was already there, it won't always be, but it never hurts to look. Hope we've been of some assistance. Thanks for the link Burnt.[up]

I'm not sure where I found the information, but I will do my best to pass it on and hopefully save you some time (and headaches)

I have seen some people on here do a fantastic job wrapping the header still on the bike. I wasn't nearly as confident and removed the header to wrap it.

In order to remove the header you have to drop the motor down. (not nearly as scary as it sounds)

You have to pull off the right and left side plastic around the motor, remove the support brackets from the front of the motor. You shouldn't need to take off the oil cooler, just leave it attached and let it hang (support the hoses)

Unbolt the 2 horizontal stabilizers from the motor, one on the top under the seat, and the one on the front.

Here is an important part. You have to support the motor with something BEFORE you break the upper front motor mount loose. I used a couple of ratchet straps, if you have a rear-axle stand and a floor jack that would probably be better.

Once you have it supported, remove the giant hex-bolt up near the neck of the frame. You should be able to slowly rotate the engine forward enough to get the header out.

Just wrap and reverse.

My only other suggestion, don't use the cheap-ass stainless zip-ties that typically come with the kits. (or at least the kit I bought) Get some better ties, hose clamps, or some 316 stainless tie-wire.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think im gonna go for the wrap. Can somebody tell me why the front tire on my bike would have cupped after only 2000 miles?
I just had to put 2 new tires on my bike with only 2400 miles on it. The front end was wobbling horrible and they told me the tire was cupped. If anyone has an answer that would be great.

Could be one of the following. Bent rim, your front shocks are not set the same, low tire pressure, old dry rotted tire, loose or slop in your head bearings, bent frame. Most likely the shocks are not tunned the same or your tire pressure is low.
