When you go to Autozone and take in that paper towel with three drops of oil on it, tell them to recycle it properly!!! You MUST be adamant! Demand to see them wring it out in the tank! Post back what happens:eagerness:

If enough liquid comes out of that catch can that you feel it needs to be recycled at an Autozone, you have serious issues.

They don't get there is a middle ground called "reality". Some people don't know this "reality" thing (ahem...) :upset: Somewhere in between strip mining national parks to make Prius batteries, and wearing out rubber, asphalt, and using gas, just to drive to a store and recycle 3 drops of oil, there is a NET result. It should be positive.
I'll toss that rag in the trash, but it doesn't mean I'm looking to go shoot a baby seal in the face with a tracer round in my AR-10, as I sink a tanker of used oil in the ocean with a bald eagle on my shoulder screaming "'MURICA, bitches!!!!!" but I do try to leave our big blue home just a little better than I found it.
We can't all be perfect, but we all can be a little better everyday:love_heart:

Remove the catch can and sell it to someone else, put the money into something for your bike that is beneficial. Then run an open line down behind the left footpeg and literally never give another though for the life of the bike.

There is no way I would shoot a baby anything, I don't like hunting with a firearm, to me, it just isn't fair chase. I don't mind if other people do it, that's the soul searching they have to do.
I no longer dump my used oil into the sewer, I bring it to the appropriate place, I recycle as much as possible however, my carbon print is huge due to the large engines I run for work, oh well, like said above, one can't be perfect !

Hey guys, quick question regarding the sludge in my primary unit. Since it's about -12 degrees here I'm not going to ride the bike to warm it up to temp. Do you think if I leave it idling for 45-60 minutes (with fresh oil) it will warm up enough to burn off the condensation? Or am I better off leaving it until spring at this point?

IMO , Get it operating temp, then drain oil, then start up again. Should not take long to burn off the condensation.
X2 ^^^^ Just run it until the fan turns on. No need to idle for an hour:upset:
If theres that much sludge, consider removing the primary cover to clean it. It's easy.

another answer is this: your "idling" suggestion is the single worst borderline catastrophic thing you could ever do to an XB.

'Idling to get up to temp' is fine (of course) and absolutely preferred especially in cold climates. Long stroke, heavy crank swinging V-twins do NOT like to be fired up cold and revved or loaded. Lots of shear strength trying to break down cold oil is not good. Be sure to use a viscosity that matches your ambient temp range. Not just 20w-50. In Florida straight 60w was recommended and performed flawlessly, for a snowy area, a lighter oil would be good. Check your manual and do what it says.
"idling for 45-60 minutes" extreme, and pointless. It only takes 5 or so to get hot enough to turn on the fan.
A idling motorcycle engine is barely producing enough oil flow or pressure, especially if it's worn. There is no airflow to keep temps in check, and the fan is only so good. It isn't cooling a radiator, it's just blowing air around....
Obviously it's also a danger to have it running in the garage that long regardless if you open the door on a blisteringly cold day.
To your original question... If you are that worried about the sludge in the primary, just take it off and clean it (I would just use a rag and avoid copious amounts of brake cleaner). You can find a manual .pdf download at Buellmods.com or Buelltooth.com. It's easy.
