No Lights

Ok so I was out riding today at about 7:30pm. When I took off I noticed that I had my High Beams on, or so I thought by the indicator being on. I flipped the switch a few times and the indicator stayed on. I didn’t think much of it until I got behind a car and I had no head lights what so ever. I didn’t freak, I figured I had a blown fuse. When I reached my friends house I checked the fuses and they were good. What would case my high beam indicator to just stay on with no head lights whatsoever? This is pissing me off. Someone please help.

check the connection under the front fairing i had the same thing happen on my 04 xb12r and the wires in the connection to the headlights started to melt and fused the plug together. pretty easy fix it cost me about $14 for new pins and the connections.

maybe the relay is bad check the bulbs and the highbeam switch

Check the wires from the headlight back to the four to three connector.

Check the black wire going into the harness side.

Look for corrosion inside the connector.

Replace connector or make a jumper for the black wire that bypasses the connector.

if its the plug you do not need to take off the fairing. it makes it easier if you do but its not needed.

Yes, awkward but doable with the fairing on.

I left mine on when I did this repair.

Ok, so I took the front fairing off, checked the bulbs and both were fine. Then I reconnected the battery, started moving wires and the light was still on. I then removed one of the wires off of one of the head lights, tuned the power back on and tah dahh, no high beam indicator light until I switched it on. The momentary also worked. The down side is I still didn't have any head lights. I turned the bike off, reconnected the wire to see if that was the issue and when I turned it back on, the light was still out for about 30 seconds and then back on it came. So like you guys said, it has to deal with that connector. The problem is I can't seem to pull it apart and I don't want to break it. Please see the pictures below.

Ok, I'm not the only one that can't get it apart. The only difference is I got my bike new. Check this out. I'm soooooo hoping that this is the problem.

That's the same plug that fused together and i had to get the new plug and pins that go inside. pretty easy to fix took me about 30-45 minutes.

I made a jumper cable and bypassed it. Figure the wire is too rotted and you need to go back at least an inch anyway. There's not enough left to play with so snip, snip, crimp, crimp, crimp, crimp.

And you're done.

Ok, I have to get back out there.. It's over 102 right now so it's going to have to wait. =) I'm going to take my Digital multimeter and set it to Open/Short to test to see what's fused together and then go from there.
I'll let you guys know what I find.

Mine wasn't fused. The black wire on the three side was extremely corroded.

Ok maybe a dumb question, but what is the orange wire connected to? I still can't get it apart, but I did manage to get the headlight to come on my disconnecting the white wire and ground on the high beam side. I think the orange wire and white wire might be fused together.

I would just like to say thanks for all of the help and after me and my fellow Marine sobered up a little I put a new connector from Radio Shack on there and the lights are perfect.

=) we still have a slight buzz
