NO money LED flasher mod

I'll be doing this mod today myself as I just got my new signals in the mail ... [up][up] Don't forget to rep the people up who help you with problems :)

I just did this mod! I ordered the flasher from asb but then saw this. I did it and it works! easy as hell and free.

thanks!![up]

I finally did this today. After trying led one and even putting resistors inline (neither of which worked) i said to hell with it and cut it. the reason i did not do it earlier was because no one had a relay that looked like mine. but it was right on. find the chip, put the tab on it at the top and cut the seventh leg or second down on the right. Thanks.

Awesome! Just cancelled my Relay order after doing this! Works great, now I just need some super glue to get the housing back together! I sort of destroyed it trying to get it apart. . . lol

I added front and rear led signals on my 12r last year and had a hell of a time getting them to work, i bought the led flasher and didnt work so i had to add the stupid resistors to make it work...lol wish i would have knew about this. Will be doing this to eliminate the resistors.

Mine on my 05 is like the one posted by VanillGorilla on page 3. I couldn't get in there to pull the pin 7 (the one he points to with an arrow in his pic). It was too tight next to that other black module. I even tried unsoldering it from the other side. I was able to bend and move it a little but couldn't get it out. So I scratched off the copper connection strip on the opposite side of the board and it worked. I have bulbs in the front and LED's in the rear right now and it works fine. I tried LED's up front too and it worked fine. I'll post pics later on tonight if I can.

Pics...

This is where the flasher is location on the firebolts:

What he flasher looks like. Cut the "glue" on the front around the prongs with a razor:

There are some tabs you have to spread to pull it apart:

Here's the chip:

Here it is after I mutilated it trying to remove the pin:

So I scratched off the connection on the back:

Gorilla glued back together:

This is a great mod. My flasher case easily came apart. Clipped the leg instead of trying to desolder. Case went back together without silicon or glue.

+ 1 million to OP.

Another bolt now blinking LEDs after this mod! :)
I desoldered (is that even a word?) and then used a spade bit by hand. Pushing and twisting from under and the connection came free. I removed it completely.

Cyclic legend!
Great photos snrusnak!
Thanks for sharing all.

Mine for some reason looks like the 2010 kinda and I have an 07 Firebolt. But just compared the original pic to mine and I found what wire to yank... WORKS GREAT!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!

Definitely works well. Great mod, simple and money saving. The blinkers still blink a bit faster than before. However its not as fast as bulb blown speed... if that makes sense.

Excellent tip friend. I will definitely try this, Led flashers are so much better. I was just looking at the flasher unit today, it's in the nose cone behind the lights on XB9Rs.

It's easier just to do this mod, and it's free.... why fight what's natural??? :)

It works, I have it done on my bike.

IMG_0557.jpg I can't believe how easy that was! IMG_0556.jpg And it works! Thanks Cyclic

I've done this mod on several bikes and they have all worked great. Basically you open up the stock flasher and double check it has a timing chip. Orient yourself with the pic and your flasher, using the notch on the chip as a point of reference. Removing the indicated connection either above or below the circuit board will enable it to function as a LED flasher. Then just seal it back up with a glue or silicone and let dry. DONE.
