Congratz on the Honda. Nice bike.
The XB9R and a Honda is really apples and oranges.
They are very different bikes in almost every way.

I went the other way, owned an f4i, cbr600rr like yours, a daytona 675, and a 954rr. I enjoy my little xb9sx the most. :D I love tweaking with it and maximing the power out of that little motor which by the way sounds like ******* thunder. lol

Character is everything, unless of course you're at the track and you need the highest performance to win races.

that might be exactly what i am experiencing. going from a buell to a I4 is a big change, as is going the other way. i suspect you will start to miss the high reving I4 engine, just like i already miss the low, thunder and character of my buell. it just something different for now and who knows what my next bike will be.

Another option are non-harley twins - ones actually designed to run well and make power :D There are a bunch of good ones, Suzuki TL series, honda RC51, any 998+ 4-valve ducati, RC8R, 1125, etc. For me these hit the sweet spot, sound great, loads of charcter, snap hard right off idle and still rev out and make decent-to-great peak power. The XB motor is interesting, but its super-narrow power curve and low overall power output is a little disappointing. It still works ok as an everyday street bike, but I'd sure like another 40hp and quicker response. If someone would put a modern twin (ideally 90 degree) in a ulysses-type chassis I'd love it (MTS1200 is too long and has too much plastic). The KTM SMT990 is quite good, though the motor falls short of the best modern twins. Fingers crossed that KTM tosses the RC8R mill in an SMT-like chassis before I'm too old to enjoy it :D

I think the common theme here and what warsaw was trying to express in his well written original email is that what HE wants, appreciate, looks for, needs, etc has changed AND is different than what some others on the forum appreciate in a bike. I don't think in any way he was being disrespectful to the Buell community.

He was simply saying he wants something different. Something new to him, different feel, different ergos, different power bands, etc.

Buells aren't perfect to everybody and that's perfectly fine becuase it leaves more buell options to those who think they are!!

Interesting read though none-the-less!

Enjoy the Honda warsaw.

Exactly! It's basically a matter of whatever floats your boat. The same thing that floats your boat today might not do it for you tomorrow.

I've accepted the fact that I am a bike whore and I'm older so of course my body wasn't digging the super sporty ergo's for just cruising around.

can we all agree the xb is not a race bike, it's a street bike. And its a damn good streetbike.

I race sport bikes on road courses, own motocross, Trials Bike (GASGAS), a Yam TDR Ultimate Dual..yada yada yada. Have owned evry type of bike cept Ducs and Beemers. I can say for certain that I would never again own a cruiser and I will NEVER sell my XB9S !! If I cud sleep with my BUELL I wud..day and night. I have never owned such an uplifting bike. I look for excuses to ride it and my pickup z jealous of it. I cant keep up with my palls that hav I4, but I can pass, brake, turn better and more comfortably in town and hwy speeds. They just leave me behind at 100mph+ But who cares. I'm looking for a XB12X now !! BTW my Lightning has little clearance, but I shoed a set of Dunlop D6016 and the bike blasts through gravel roads at 130KPH ! ! Better than most Duals !! Go figure ?

being 58 and having owned hundreds of assorted bikes since i was 13, i have to say that there's no bad bikes. they are all quirky and have their merits and negative points. out of all the bikes i presently own, i have 2 vino 125 scooters, a BMW, kawi H2, and 2 buells registered and insured. which one do i jump on and ride the most even as the weather is cooling down here in southern PA???? either my cityX or my uly. if nothing else, they have personality. IMO>

CBR's are street bikes too, 99% of all bikes sold are for the street not the track.

I just traded my ZX11 in today for a XB12R. The 11 was so damn fast. When I pulled around the corner heading to the dealer I did one last farewell wheelie and smiled like a fool when I set the front wheel down and turned into the parking lot. I got the 11 after I sold my Ultra Classic a couple years ago.

Sorry guys but I like em all! I need one of each and a 1985 Honda Elite 50 scooter to keep on the transom of my boat when I arrive at a new marina/town while boating.

Ride On!
