I am so bummed!!!!! This is the result of this shitty economy. The very reason that we bought a Buell is now working against us. These bikes are not cookie cutter, mass produced junk!!! But...when sales are slumping the company has to shed weight. I understand that, so it is what is is. I don't think Eric Buell will just give up. Either way, I may never get rid of my bike. Ride on!!!!

I will ride my lightning till the tires fall off, rebuild, and keep on ridin . We all have to keep representing the bikes we love. If the worst happens and they don't come back, then 10 years from now when your at a bike night people will be like HOLY SHIT is that a Buell, and you can proud. so keep em looking good and don't stop ridin em.

I do hope that Buell is not done. Though I now wish I had waited. I could have gotten an 1125CR for less than my XB12Ss. I'd had to get the optional bars and put Ss pegs on to give it the Ss riding position I like. Too tall and fat to lean too much. But then again, if I had waited my wife would say no because she wants a new bathroom. So realistically I am happy that I was able to pay cash for my new 09 in April.
If Buell doesn't come back before my knees get too old for my Buell, I'll buy a Victory instead of a Fat Bob.

Very sad. But I look at what happened at ford for a silver lining. Well Im a Big Ford SVT guy. Have owned a few cobras and Lightnings. Well, in 04 Ford did away with the SVT shop,But in 07 the name plate
showed up on the new Shelby gt 500. Even tho Svt department is gone offiacally, Their products are still around. So I prying that like SVT, Buell will be back in a few.

Or even better sold of to someone else, who will get behind them 100%. Harley has never been that way for them. Like said before, Harley and the dealers never really supported them from day one.

maybe victory will buy them LOL im not totally opposed to it ha

At least you can find Victory in dealers with other brands. The local Vic dealer here also sells Ducati, Triumph, and BMW. I think Buell would do well with that kind of exposure instead of only having showroom visibility for fat bellied geezer-gliders.

i thought i read that they were shutting down plant for 2 moths!...now this! grrr...ya know i love my xb...but ive had a ton of problems with it. i like workin on it so its not too much of a thing. just not sure what the future holds for my buell. ill keep it for awhile cuz i love ridin it but whats really going to happen to the value? its gona plummet. [mad]

i absolutely love my xb12ss and felt sick to my stomach when i read about the closure and i really feel for the dedicated Buell workers and hope some resolve comes out of the closet. What a shitty christmas gift from the chrome throne. As i am in Australia and dont have a dealer that i feel really wants to serve me i am nervous about keeping it on the road. Any suggestions about the amount of parts that will continue? When they say 7 years does that mean plastics or just driveline? Do you think the arse will fall out of the price of buells? I dont want to sell it but nor do i want to have it stranded in the garage. Any thoughts would be appreciated.thanks

I think the price will plummet in the short term, and you can forget any trade-in value if you wanted to swap. The parts should continue from HD for a while, and, IMHO, there will be a surge of aftermarket parts for the bits that you can't find OEM.

In short, keep the bike, get the basics for spare and the rest will work itself out.

It's a bike...not a heart attack...;)

A friend of mine was offered $10,000 trade in for his 2006 Lightning XB12SS and they were going to sell him a new 1125CR for $5,995.

Damn. $10K trade in? Given some dealers are letting new 1125's go for $8K he could have gotten $2K back.
If it was $10K trade and still paying $6K then someone is smoking dope or not inside the US because pre shutdown notice, the 1125 listed a hair under $12K.

I paid $10K for my 09 XB12Ss back in April.
