Hey guys been out a few times already in Chicago this season (take when we can for now). Anyways was riding yesterday and I went to give it some gas to keep highway speeds with the rest of traffic and the bike bogged down and almost died. I let off of it and it seemed fine. It happened again and actually died. Pulled onto shoulder and checked for obvious leaks or anything like that (I had plenty of gas in the tank too). It started back up and I made my way home. Even on side streets any good throttle amount bogged her down. Any thoughts to what's going on? 07 xb12ss with 11,700 miles on her. KN filter with modified Airbox. Buell race exhaust. I'm sure it's running original plugs still. Fan does work and no lights are on my dash. My gas light comes on from time to time but this I've known about. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and ride safe. 312-617-9697 if anyone is around and would like to come by for some pizza and beer if the bike needs fixing or a tps reset or etc etc. Thanks

You have stock ecm/maps? With that intake and exhaust and if you have stock maps it's most likely tuning. I'd recommend race maps as a start.

Sky - new (to you) bike or have you been through a few seasons without this issue?

Hey guys. Stock ECM for sure and maps as far as I know. This will be my second season on the bike and this is new to me. I fired her up in my garage and there we no issues late yesterday.

had the same issue recently...turned out to be the front spark plug wire to coil connection was loose. haven't had the issue since

Haven't checked the fuel pump (I know I prob have a bad wire with the gas light being on almost all the time since I bought her last year but no issues since this). Where is the filter located and I'll be checking the plug wires too! I saw a fuel filter post the other day. It looked like a filter I could buy at an auto parts store. Is this correct? Thanks for the help so far guys.

before you start randomly throwing parts at it run ecm diagnostics either by crossing pins #1&2 on the diagnostics plug (use search window top of home page for instructions) or ecmspy. but i'm betting that if the bike sits for 48 hours or more and you turn on ignition....full gauge needle sweep, then turn on run switch.....CEL setup and light off....it cranks excessively long then fires. if that's the case it's the fuel pump. and the filter is part of pump assembly.

Ok so fired up the bike and let her idle for a while in my garage. Got her nice and warmed up and was able to duplicate the issue after putting it all back together. T buddy who's a mechanic/body guy helped me out. The bike bogged down again. So I pulled the Airbox cover off and it ran fine. Put it on again and it happened again. My buddy says you prob have a air flow restriction. So I pull off the KN filter and figure lets start simple and clean it. I had a KN filter cleaner kit so might as well give that a shot first and foremost. I won't lie the filter was dirty. It's drying now so we shall see.

How loud is your fuel pump when it primes? My bike did the same thing and it was the fuel pump. It was also really loud when it primed.

Fuel pump is honestly not that loud truth be told. If the filter cleaning doesn't work that'll be my next check.

You should also check ground wire connections under seat, near battery. I had similar issue and cause was a loose ground wire.

Well I rode to work today (16 miles away) no issues to report. So I will see if it happens again. I'll keep you guys all posted. Thanks for the input so far. Great group of people on this forum.
