so we all have seen or heard of the dreaded run-in with a deer or other animals...

I was wondering if my fellow Buellers are using any type of animal deterent like these....

While riding the other evening I came across a few deer but they crossed well ahead of me...

and we did cook up and enjoy a yummy venison roast the other day....and as you know, paybacks a bitch!
:D
safe riding everyone

:)

I don't use those but I'll probably go get some soon, lots of deer around Missouri. You can't hear them can you? Where'd you get those ones?

I found that pair @ Wal-Mart for 8 bucks....

back in Onterrible everybody and their brother had them on vehicles...

I do believe they emit a frequency that is too high pitched for humans to hear....
:D

I just returned from riding and enjoyed the sweet sound of BamBams motor (when I go for a 'short' blast I don't use earplugs, long trips I do)
So no other noise or sounds were noticable [up]

Be careful, just because you can't hear it doesn't mean your hearing won't be damaged (I'm like 99% sure about this at least).

I remember a test done years ago on deer "whistles".
Most of it was about the same result as the fuel line magnets, it didn't really work.
I missed one (deer) on my Triumph Sprint back in 2006 by less than a foot at 70 mph.
I don't ride much at night anymore.[sad]

Scott Craven, University of Wisconsin Wildlife Specialist, states that he receives many requests for advice on the use and effectiveness of deer whistles, to which he replies "Until I see some solid evidence to support the use of deer whistles, I cannot, as a wildlife professional, recommend their use. I contend there is no substitute for driver education and awareness of the areas, seasons and times of day of vulnerability." According to research in Michigan and Wisconsin, the deer rutting season in the fall is the peak hazard time as deer movement is increased and they are "oblivious" to outside activities that don't relate to mating. November is typically the peak month for deer-vehicle collisions, with a second surge in late November when many deer seasons start. Also, deer are primarily nocturnal, so night time driving (or riding) increases the chance of hitting a deer.

The article ends by saying: "If use of deer whistles results in increased awareness of deer dangers, then a motorist's chances of hitting a deer may be reduced. On the other hand, use of deer whistles may give him a false sense of security."

Oh well eh? [smirk]
No harm no foul, I stay aware of my surroundings regardless and this in no way will lull me into thinking I am deer proof..lol

Good, I would rather not read about anyone else getting clipped by a deer, they are food not obstacles!:D

Could be wrong but thought they tested this on mythbusters or a similar show-regardless, not worth the money IMO. They don't work.

I think I tried some after this happened.....

I agree that I don't think they do much, but I can at least say I didn't hit a deer when I had them. The most affective way to not hit a deer is to ride slow once the sun starts going down. I realize that's tough for some people to do, but I have no problem cruising around at 25mph if I'm on back roads after that happened. People don't always appreciate it when they're behind me though.

to be fair, is it really 'payback' when you're the one flying down the road on a motorcycle and the deer are just walking around trying to figure out why there's a strip of pavement running through the woods??

I think I may be trying out those little dudes,I am in lower Alabama out in the country so deer and other critters are always out and about when the sun sets.:D

Found this little guy in the back yard. Took a nap in the grass, and at dusk mommy came by, nursed some, then both took off. Yeah, I live in deer country, my folks have two kills in one year with their car.

I used to run those too, they're cheep & easy to place, what's the harm?
I have been seeing alot of deer lately..

That deer has crazy eyes. If you look at the first picture long enough it starts to look like normal sized blades of grass with a 3 inch tall deer.
