I was changing the oil and caught this with my filter wrench. WTF is it? I started the bike up and it ran fine just around the block. As if the oil change all together wasn't already a disaster ( spilled oil, funnel sprung a leak, ran wrong off the foil i used for the exhaust and missed the pan, ect.)

Did you take anything off or look at anything while were changing the oil. I'm scanning through the manual. The first thing I got to was the clutch inspection cover has a spring behind it. Still looking for the plastic piece, looks like one of the bolt wholes for the chin fairing.

Looks like your chin fairing mount that is molded into the plastic and that is the bolt.

Is that screw a round head torx bolt?

No idea what the spring is from though. Its def not from the clutch, the clutch spring has less winds and is thinner than that one in the picture.

Looks to me like your piston return spring. It's part of Buells patented artificial compression components. With one cylinder running higher compression than the other, you're going to get bad blow by and you'll wear out your crank bearings. See if you can at least get the other one out so they're equal.

first pic is where it was when i snapped it off, second is a wire i found dangling inside the chin fairing the connection fits on the screw that was on the plastic piece. wtf is this stuff? i guess it doesn't affect the bike if it's been disconnected this whole time?

Don't forget to throw some oil up on the gasket of that bad boy too. It'll make removing a bit easier. [cool]

believe it or not my wrench slipped and jacked that part of the filter up, it's not too tight. i thought it was but it backed off easily then i re-tightened it. if i unscrew that sensor i'll have to replace all the oil again?

Just collect what you drain out and put it back in after, as long as your engine is clean. Try leaning the bike against something too.
