Oil light on before start-up..off when started

Ive got an 03 xb9s and the oil light is on when I turn key to start..and goes off while im riding[confused] any thoughts?[smirk]

have you checked your oil level lately? if thats ok I'd suspect that the oil pressure sensor may be going bad on you

also could be possible oil pump gear wear.

Do you mean on when key is on but engine is off? I believe that is normal since it is not detecting any oil pressure, since it is not on?

If the key is just in the "start" position but the bike is NOT running the oil light will come on, on the instrument cluster.

As soon as ya start the bike after acouple of seconds it will go off.

Is that what ya mean ????

If engine not runs, oilpump does not work, no oilpressure...oillight comes up. Normal.

It's normal. The light is on before you hit the starter. If it does not go off when you rev the bike, then you have a real problem!

Yeah its on before I start the bike when I turn the key one click. The Neutral, engine, and oil, lights are on with the key turned back. The injectors or whatever whines for a few seconds and the engine light turns off but oil light stays on..however when I start it the oil light goes out. that's normal? new to my buell!

yes when you turn the key on to start the bike it's lighting up the bulb to let you know the bulb works and when you start the bike it shuts off that IS NORMAL it just means that your oil pressure is fine what you need to worry about is if at anytime your riding and it comes on thats when I'd worry |IF God forbid it does come on while your riding shutoff the engine IMMEDIATELY and check things out. But as it stands now the way your describing it all is well. I'll also mention that if it doesn't come on when you turn the key to start the bike it may mean that the bulb is blown.
