First post so advance apologies if I come off like an idiot!

Had a kind of trifecta this weekend. On my '05 Lightning, my 9 month old battery died. Put in a new battery, changed my oil/filter and replaced my stock muffler with a Jardine slip-on. Now after I fired up the bike the oil light came on to stay. I put in 3 quarts of synthetic, with 2 1/2 in the swing-arm and the rest in the oil filter and the dip-stick says there's plenty.

The only other thing I can think of is that the Jardine muffler called for the removal of the servo-motor controlling the exhaust damper on the stock muffler. I unplugged the servo motor and am wondering if this is somehow tied into the oil light?

In the interest of full disclosure, I did have to disconnect the 3 oil lines that run under the bike, above the muffler as part of the muffler swap out, After the new muffler was installed they were re-connected.

Any thoughts?

2-1/2 quarts total that includes the oil filter, one quart into the primary, no more no less! the oil filter gets filled half way before installation, then the rest into the swing arm which should be 2-1/2 quarts. sounds like you over serviced the swing arm and oil filter.

please go to Buellmods.com and download the service manual

Might be a longshot but take off your oil filter and put it back on. The light comes on when the oil pressure is not appropriate or there is a leak or overheating. From what I remember it does take around 2.5 qts all together.

no relationship. what do you have illuminated? the low oil pressure warning light or the CEL light.....or both?
if you remove the factory plug from the IEC servo unit you'll almost immediately get a CEL warning light and stored trouble code.

remove 1 pint of oil from swingarm drain plug.....reinstall plug....remove swingarm oil fill/dipstick cap and leave off. now start bike and hold rpm @ approx. 1500 rpm for 30 seconds to purge air from oiling system. oil pressure light off? you're good to go. still on? try what 07bolt suggested above. your oiling system is air-bound.

You have to watch putting to much oil in bike or you will find it coming out of places you don't want . Rocker boxes ,rocker cover , head gasket and if it leaks from rear covers it will coat the fan in oil and become a problem later down the line.

How long did you let it run with the light on?

I think the OP light is right on the OP output but maybe if you removed the oil lines, it may take a little bit to fill them back up and read pressure? Should still take less the 30 seconds though.
