So yesterday on my way to work my cooling fan blew its fuse causing the motor to get very hot fast despite being 35-40 degrees out. My check engine light started flashing and since the engine feels hot as hell on my legs I decide to pull over, once I pull over I notice smoke coming out from the crevice between the seat and the airbox cover and I turn off the bike. I wait a few minutes for it to cool down and turn the key, flip the kill switch, and hear the fuel injector go for about 5-7 seconds before I shut it off, and more smoke poured out with what I thought was burning oil because I had a problem with the rockerbox leaking a couple months ago. Apparently the fluid I saw was gasoline and not oil which caused some fuel to leak in the engine and to the ground, the cause of this I just found out is a melted fuel line due to the overheating, possible ruined injector, and maaaaaaybe scorched(think that's the word they used?) piston(s).

So my baby is down...again, hopefully not for a month this time.

do you have a manual? to build the jumper to read the codes, you may want to check your IAT sensor also...my fan went out on me recently and blew the fuse too, I built the jumper to read the codes and it showed the IAT sensor and fan, cause she was over heating due to fan failure, replaced the parts and she's been fine since, if you have ECMspy you can read the codes with it, that's if you have the cable...

just wondering...do you beat the living hell out of this bike? or running it minus the factory left scoop? reason i ask this is that at 35-40 degrees outside air temp as you claim, a "reasonably" ridden XB even in a mixture of hwy. and stop and go traffic, normally will not generate enough heat to even cycle the fan on and off. and by "reasonably" i mean with flow of traffic, etc.

i ride her hard, but treat her well. and the traffic was not stop and go, it was 2 hours to go a mile (not exaggerating), fan blew so started getting hot very fast.

Well at a half mile an hour you shoulda' been getting plenty of air flow:D

(kidding, ihope your bike is ok:))

if traffic was that slow i think i might have started lane splitting.....despite the legality of it haha
