This would problably be my millionth post on the problem on my bike...but i think i finally figured out what is wrong with it.

First of, i live in Pensacola, FL. its hot as shit down here right now. anyways...after doing 15 min of city riding the bike will start to want to shut off on its own coming to a stop. if i take it for a long ride on the open freeway it is fine. Today i found this out after picking my bike up from a 1 month visit to the bike shop to have found nothing. After riding home at the speed limits not exceeding 50. when i got to one of the final stop signs in the neiborhood it tottaly shut off on me and there was smoke coming from the airbox. My ass was on fire most of the way as well.

1. Is the fan suppose to stay on while riding?
2. has anyone else experienced this?
3. how can i check for the fan to be working properly?

And sorry for the long text

fans stay on to cool the bike.
but smoke coming from the airbox is not good. overfilled on oil?

I am in Bangkok, Thailand... here its hot as well, very hot and I have a lot of stop&go traffic... but I never experienced such thing u do.
My bike is a XB9SX
Race ECM
K&N air filter
I use Mobile1 10W-40 (thing about to use Toyota semi synthetic 5W-30)

The fan should run as well when u ride (mine does but only low rpm)
A simple indication that the fan&its control is fine is when u stop the engine (after it got really hot) the fan should run on high rpm and after 2 or 3 min on low and then after 5 min stop... this is what my fan does

When you stop to trafic lights and the bike shuts down, does the CEL blink ?

If i remember right, when the bike gets too hot, first the ECM skips every second spark, to cut down the power, and notice the driver that the bike is too hot, if that wount help, it shuts down the bike. In both cases, the CEL should be blinking in the dash

you need to verify if you fan is not working or not, get a right side scoop and flash good tune into your bike asap i would not ride until you can get this fixed you can do serious damage to your engine.

The fan is working i just did a diagnostic check with ecm spy.

The cel does not blink or come on at all.

The bike is going to harley next week. i think it is oil or fuel thing

Was it smoke like something burning or more of steam? Did you ride through any water at the time. Just looking at all options. Check your engine breather tunes under the air box cover. The fan is necessary to cool the motor. What mods do you have done to the bike?

I had emailed EBR about the fan staying on some time back, and asked them if it was supposed to come on while riding at highway speeds, and their answer was a very emphatic yes. Especially if it does not have the RSS, it helps even the airflow out between the two cylinders.

your timing could be off, that can cause overheating. Using the wrong kind of oil can cause overheating. low oil. low on gas, our bikes heat up faster when they are low. DCPR8 plugs allow it to run hotter I believe.

If you flip the run switch to the off switch after a relatively short ride it should kick the fan on if you don't have an rss.

if it's not coming on it sounds like someone may have screwed with your ecm and turned it off manually.

Let me know if you need a map

already checked everything all of you have mentioned...sorry I lowered the fan temp turn on switch with tuner pro and it came on at idle like i wanted it to. I know its not the fan. I have been working alot with mike with xoptimized with my ecm and we have tried everything. We have narrowed it down to a bad ecm or just a bad sensory somewhere.
