For the record, Novus as well as some other plastic polishes come in more than one grade of grit. I believe Novus has 3 grades, if i recall. You can start with the coarse grade and finish with the fine grade. I'd be cautious about using it with any kind of motorized buffer though, you could end up burning a divot into the plastic. If you deide to use a power buffer use its lowest speed. I'd finish it up with some kind of wax or polishing agent. Give it a shot, then if it's still scratched use the Coarse grade to prep the smooth surface for paint. You have to provide some sort of mehanical grip for the paint to adhere to, else wise it will peel right off the smooth plastic surface. I bet I have seen a half a dozen plastic sets on ebay with big chunks of paint peeled off because the surface wasn't prepped correctly. You want a smooth scuffed flat surface, washed and dried clean. Use latex gloves to handle it so oil and grease from your hands don't get on the paintable surface. This is easy to do right and really easy to screw up. Don't cut corners and do it right elsewise you'll have a mess.
