Ugh battery terminal was a little loose, fixed that. I warmed bike up no luck. Pulled air cleaner box completely off. And found what I guess would call a breather hose on top of front cylinder pinched. I rerouted it thinking that might be the problem. No luck though. Haven't checked plugs or done TPS yet. I'm trying to go through every possible problem one at a time. So that I know for sure what is wrong with it.

I bet it's the plugs. When I bought my bike the battery was dead, we put a new battery in but since we didn't have tools I only snugged the battery terminals. The bike fired up and rode good, so I bought it. Well I forgot about the terminals and a week later it started stumbling like crazy, backfired, then wouldn't start. I then remembered and tightened the terminals. Still wouldn't start. I replaced the plugs and it fired right up.

Maybe the same thing happened with yours.

That's my next step. But I had replaced them 3 weeks ago or so. But maybe something rattled loose from coil....spark plug wire or, spark plug came loose. I will head back out and try again see what I find.

Yeah my bike was having similar symptoms when i bought it. Mine was sitting for 2 years and if your dad had it sitting the bike probably needs spark plugs. Mine were pretty bad and replacing them made the world of difference.

Well you said it backfired and lost power. That's what happened with mine and it fouled out the plugs because it wouldn't fire right after that. I then put in new plugs and it fired up.

Sounds almost like you've popped a plug. Tight enough to start but too loose to run. (That sounds really bad.)

Alright spark plugs r good. Changed them anyway and gapped them to .035. It idles worse now. I'm thinking maybe it is the coil. The front cylinder doesn't seem to be getting the same amount of spark.

What plugs are you using? If they are iridium, I don't think you are supposed to gap them, it damages them.

Well I gapped them with a tool that doesn't hurt the electrode. But maybe ur right about not gapping them. But aren't the buell stock plugs iridiums? So why would they tell u to gap them at .035?

Finally found the problem. It was a bad connection to the ECM. If u wiggled it while running it would shut off. A little electric cleaner spray and good to go.
