So after taking off my windscreen a few times the left side of my windscreen does not want to stay screwed in into both holes that is only the right side. Any ideas on how to get it to stay screwed in I already put a longer bolt in but that did nothing. Any help will be much appreciated, thanks.
 
should i put that on the inside where it screws into or on the bolt itself?
 
alright i already did that maybe i just didnt put enough on it ill have to try again
 
Is it just popping back out immediately, or is it vibrating out over time? If its a gradual reversal, then loctite should do the trick. If you've stripped the threads, loctite may not help.
 
It will stay in for a little bit and then as soon as i start going it will pop out. but it doesn't feel like the screw is even holding on to anything on the inside like it does not get tighter to turn it just sits in there almost
 
Probably stripped threads, you can probably fix with a heli-coil or some kind of thread repair kit.
 
does anyone know if what the screw threads into is a nut or what it is? its located on a separate part then that actual harness.
 
Think the thread pitch is 8-32, you may want to get yourself a tap & die set along with some cutting oil(work best), clean up threads both on the mount and the screws, go easy on both, take your time too, replace screws if needed. Loctite definitely helps, always use it when there's metal to metal contact when possible and don't use the old German torque of "good n' tight", that's where most encounter problems...your arm isn't a calibrated tool! that's why you're giving a torque range. Rule of thumb, new hardware use lowest torque value given, old and or reused hardware go to max toque value given. Some people prefer mid range and that's totally okay also. Good luck:D
 
Dang I didn't want to have to get a tap and die set but that is looking like the only option I got.
 
are you sure you didnt just knock out the black rubber nut off? If its popping out as soon as you start riding it sounds like its just laying in the hole not held in by anything. I would look to see if the rubber nut didnt come out.
 
post a pic, would help to see what's going on and we can figure out a solution rather than throwing ideas out there on how to fix the problem:)
 
On the Lightning's the nuts/threads are in nuts that are press fit into the Headlight suport bracket. I have had this issue and did use one on the bolts and retaining fittings from a Firebilt. I would recomend J/B welding a nut on the backside so the bolt has somthing to grab onto.

I will look into today after class, it seems like something that is in the headlight support bracket has fallen out or gotten loose. I may just go to the hardware store and get a longer screw and a nut and try with needle nose pliers to hold the nut in place while screwing on that side first.
 
If the threads are stripped and it's a soft/cheap/pot metal part that needs to be tapped, you may need to remove it and support the body in a vise. I've seen quite a few parts get damaged further by trying to drill/tap/chase threads with a flimsy part on the car/truck/bike.

Another option, you can use light gauge solder to take up the clearance created by the stripped bolt hole. Just cut a 1" piece of solder and insert it into the stripped bolt hole. Force the screw into the hole and tighten till snug. This type of repair is only semi-permanant. Every time you disturb that bolt, you will need to remove it and re-apply the solder. If you never have to touch the bolt again, the repair should last a good long time.

Note: It's important to NOT over tighten the bolt again....
 
I ended up jb welding a nut on the back side and using lock tight so far so good. Thanks though!
