My 2007 XB 12r has a popping noise coming from the engine when it's cold. I also notice in the first 10-15 minutes of riding it the popping happens around 1500ish rpm and I lose power briefly. I let the engine warm up before so its not stone cold. The bike has a crank case reroute. I think its a tuning problem, any suggestions?

Welllllll....

I would tune fuel maps with ECMspy and MLV(MegaLogViewer) if you are running some performance parts like muffler, and especially if air filter is changed. Should reduce popping if its caused by a bad fuel maps.

Little popping sound can be a normal thing when motor braking, but if its popping like crazy its usually caused by too much or too little fuel on low revs. Even low idle RPM can cause popping when shutting throttle completely. Might be gasket leak somewhere also(throttle body).

But on your case popping might just be a cold warmup fuel enrichment...

Are you describing a decel pop coming from the exhaust when the throttle's shut, which is normal, or a pop coming from somewhere else when the throttle's open, which doesn't sound normal to me?

It's a pop when the throttle is open, right when the revs increase and the clutch is let out around 2000 rpm, its surely not normal.
