Alright so I'm new to buells and v twin pushrod bikes in general. I've had my 03 xb9r (9k miles) for a little over a week now. Engine mods are ECM spy with race maps, drummer exhaust, K&N filter and oil breather re route.

The question is, is it normal for these bikes to be extremely ticky in the top end at idle? It almost sounds like an extremely slight knock but It's not. It goes away as soon as the engine revs over idle and the bike has always ran great over the 400 miles I've put on it. Oil light never comes on and no trouble light. Could it be an oil pump issue or am I worried about nothing?

valve train noise is normal. somenotice more depending on oil you use. oil pump problems aren't common. they did however update the oil pump drive gear later on so you may want to look into that.

Thanks for the tip! I just thought of what the noise probably is, I'm probably hearing the injectors firing mixed with the normal valve train noise. Brian fart. Lol.

Another quick dumb question is the oil level to be checked on the kick stand or with the bike level?

I only used Mobile1 full synthetic 20w50 in both the primary and the case. just fyi and if you wanted to stick with the same oil.

Thanks joe. I was wondering about that actually. That's what I'll be using when it's due.
