Hey guys I've been lurking around these forums for a while after my buddy told me he was selling his '06 xb9sx. I've wanted a street bike for years now (I'm currently 18) and the way the buell delivers power/torque just seems much more practical than a jap 600. I think I read something here about the torque being "street-able" which I'd say is pretty accurate :D. I've ridden several smaller bikes and my buddy let me test drive the XB he's selling. The bike felt completely natural and I'm still not sure how I persuaded myself to turn around and head back to his house heh.

Anywho, here are a couple questions for you guys:

It's a 2006 with 4,8XX miles, no damage, still decent tires and it's all stock except for a jardine can. He's asking $4,800 for it. How does this price sound?

I was planning on getting a motorcycle specific jacket, gloves, helmet, something for my legs and boots. Ideally, I would like boots/tall shoes that look like part of normal everyday attire. Would a pair of timberlands or something similar do the job?

Gloves: I was looking at these two

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/37/8639/ITEM/Troy-Lee-Designs-Pro-Apex-Gloves.aspx

I like troy lee's products; I have a very nice carbon mountain bike helmet from them, but i digress..

For a helmet, I was thinking Shark or HJC (I've used HJC dirt lids and the fit is probably similar for their street lids). However, I've heard good things about Shark. perhaps:

?

I was thinking reinforced jeans should suffice for my legs, but I could be wrong.

And finally the jacket.... I don't know anything about jackets to be honest. I want something with a bit of padding and probably more than adequate slide protection. Traffic isn't very stop and go and the weather is rarely too hot because I live in Maine so I would think having the very best venting isn't as big of deal.

Do you guys have any recommendations for jackets? I would like to keep it under $200 and ideally something with a simple design (lol nothing super flashy covered in gixxer logos haha)

possibly something like http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/39/10480/ITEM/Alpinestars-Exile-Jacket.aspx

That price sounds like a steal! I'd jump in a heartbeat...

as for gear ATGATT! I actually prefer alpinestars/icon/knox stuff I tend to shop around for deals craigslist n'stuff. Except for helmet and I wont buy used on that I have a KBC made buell helmet and it works great you might be able to find one still for a good price as they are discontinued

Jacket. Get the Buell Mesh jacket. With the liner and a sweat shirt it keeps me warm down to about 35. And with a T-Shirt under the mash it is comfortable well above 95 on a summer day.

Check out this out. Bought a leather jacket from them awhile back for the same price as the textile one from motorcycle superstore.

where in maine are you at? I would look around and check out some others first some poeple are really hard up! Seen some really good deals around just gotta be patient. Good luck

I'm in Bangor. $4800 for an '06 with few miles and a jardine seems like a very nice deal from a few comparisons I've made to similar buells on cycletrader and craigslist and whatnot

That sounds like a good deal. Being our bikes are a rare breed anymore, my 09 is worth WAY more to me than what I paid. Look anywhere online and people are starting to recognize the uniqueness of our bikes. I'm seeing more and more people on Craigslist hoping to trade brand new Jap bikes for older Buells. Hope to welcome you to the family soon!

true that.. my buddy selling it is looking into a uly for his next bike. I hope this deal goes through, the xb9 im looking at needs to be liberated from those awful hand guards and safety stickers on the frame asap

for riding footwear, do you guys think some high top timberlands would work?

Some timberlands would work, but then you've gotta take into account that you're gonna be wearing timberlands all the time... [confused]

haha, no that's just personal taste that I don't care for them. Most companies that make motorcycle boots have some pretty standard looking black boots that fit pretty well with a pair of jeans and are decently comfortable. Plus riding boots usually have zippers and velcro, instead of laces, which take forever, and have the chance of getting caught on a peg or shifter if the laces aren't tucked in. Making sure you get something tall enough to protect your ankles is the important part.

As far as the bike, sounds like a great deal, and buying vehicles off a friend you can trust is always a plus.

heh i don't particularly like tims and i don't see myself wearing them as everyday attire.. just a leather or sturdy work boot kind of deal, i figured saying timberlands would get the point across and save a bit of typing lol. oooo i think i saw some timberland flip flops for sale....... ;)

Let me know if you when you scrap those handguards, I want a pair...

Shift kicker boots, look just like skate shoes but are made for motorcycle riding. Love em.

I'm currently riding in combat boots until I get some more riding boots. Anything you have is better than tennis shoes. I sold my last pair of riding boots after I sold my triumph, and I miss them dearly. The boots I have now are ok, but there's no comparison to boots made for riding. Even if you never need them for a crash, the stiff sole feels amazing for shifting and breaking compared to other boots.

that sounds a little steep compared to whats around me. there is a xb12s on craigs list by me for 3,800 i think its got like 4k miles.

this is my first post i'm also looking into getting a cityx in the near future since i have a lil bit of money coming my way (alot of riding expereince but never owned my own) :D jw if anyone knows some good spots to ride in ny without going to far out of the city and also things to look out for when buying a cityx. rode a buddies xb12r and fell in love with buells.

Hi,
I just bought an 2005 Cityx yesterday! Holy Cow this bike is fun! I will recommend a Buell to everyone.
I would say it has comparable power to a TL1000s I owned. I had no idea, I think it will be hard to keep this bike under the speed limit

:D

yeah, me and the rate buells pick up speed kind of have a love hate relationship so far. i love how fast i get to 25/35/45/65 but, conversely, i hate how fast i get to 25/35/45/65 because i feel bad accelerating more. i love accelerating more.... bit of a conundrum if i do say so myself.

my buddy selling it let me borrow it for the day so it's chilling in my driveway right now (just got back from a ride of course). first thing my mom says:

"it's got a head light out. you should have justin (the guy selling it) look into that"

i wasn't even slightly surprised :p [smirk] :D
