"prestart" procedure?

On my 9er I have to wait for the check engine light to go off before hitting the starter button or my clock wil go whacky. Maybe it is just mine though.

Maybe needs a new battery. The engine light is lit while the fuel pump primes when the key is turned on. If you hit the start button before the light goes out, the starter & fuel pump may be too much of a strain on your dying battery. Just a guess.

Take your battery and have it charged, if it does it again after that, then you should replace it. It will only go south from there..

Hey Guys,

Is the proceedure that dmulligan is talking about like the solution to clear a fouled plug. I know that I can get a fouled plug occassionally and there is a proceedure that I have tried and it sounds like the one dmulligan described. I could be full of little red ants also, depends on who you talk to.

I got mine from AutoZone. They dont keep them in stok, so they had to have them delivered from their main supply warehouse, but were in the stor the next day.

I have heard its the same with O'Reilly or any other auto parts store.

Got mine from American Sport Bike along with almost every and anything else you may desire for yor Buell.

How do I fix my fouled plugs in the meantime? I got em out and don't know what I am looking for. Have my road test tomorrow.

also if new plugs are what i need which ones will work? nobody has the ngks around here and like i said i need the bike running tomorrow

You can take the fouled plugs and sand the center and side electrodes with emery board or a folded piece of sandpaper. Doesn't have to be much and of course it's only temporary.

Like Rich said, almost none of the Auto parts places will have them in stock, but they can all order them. NGK Iridium's, Part# DCPR9EIX.

used the nail file from a pair of nail clippers. Worked for now. Gonna order the NGK's today. Thanks all!

Advance auto parts had the NGK's in stock - fair price: $7 ea. Same part # as Stevenc150 above.

You can just get replacement plugs at the dealer. I laughed and told the manager that was the cheapest thing Ive ever bought from Harley. 6 bucks and change
