:D
I am soon to purchase my first bike. I am current deployed in iraq and i'll be coming home in december. The wife is insisting that daddy buys himself a motorcycle as a end of tour gift. i'm not arguing. I've decided to get an XB12Ss. I'm in love with them. I could use some help though with after market stuff. I have seen some pics of bikes with lifted tails, and some other stuff and I'm curious if it is DIY type stuff, and will i need a new seat to adjust to the angle? I also want to change the mirrors immediately, i'm sure that is an easy DIY? Can't wait to cruise around next year, i'm stationed in texas with plenty of road to explore.

i have the same bike and it was love at 1st sight.(a picture anyway) well i did lots of research and ordered my 09 Ss, waited an impatient 3 months and i couldn't be happier.I want a little louder pipe but apart from shortning the front indicators, doing the dual high beam mod and removing the rear reflectors mine is as stock as the day i rode it home.Yeah i even have all the warning decals on it still and often get a lot of people asking if it is on its virgin ride.I have 5000 kms on it and love it as it is.I think these bikes look great the way they are but i agree the mirrors could do with some work.

There's a post with links to tons of threads for aftermarket vendors and projects I can't post it atm as I'm posting from a cell phone maybe someone can put the link up for ya

yea i'm debating buying brand new 09 or 10 which ever is out when i get home, or buying an 05-08 low miles for half the price. the right answer almost seems obvious as the later. is there any major differences or reason to purchase brand new? especially if planning to modify the bike immediately?

I have 09 xb12ss. CRG lane split (5 minute diy) with bar end adaptors.K&N filter (5 minute diy), Rizoma lux grips, Trojan tail eliminator with Kellerman LED (front and back). With LED you need new flasher so you won't be a stobe light on the roads. Just a few of the numerous mods you can do and spend dough on.....enjoy your bike.

i highly recommend purchasing new through encs and aafes. so far they have been really helpful with me. i haven't seen the product yet, but their service is basicaly upstanding and two years of warranty free sounds great.

yea i made the decision to go through encs, i sent out for my price quote and set my delivery date for mid december when i get home from iraq. i'm friggin excited. the main things i want to do is give it the more agressive look. i want the tail raised and the bars lowered. and the mirrors, i've seen some cnc machined bar end mirrors on ebay for 60 bucks any one know if they are quality?

any one know how much and how long it will take to do the tail section lift? is it just a spacer? will i need to buy a new seat once the angles change?

The tail lift is just a spacer kit and can be a diy fab and install if you want. The stock seat still fits, though I've heard some have used a hairdryer on the seat pan to warm it up for a bit of a reshape.
cheers :D

sweet. My order is in for one black 2009 xb12Ss. Pretty much soiled the front of my pants and absolutely cannot wait to come home and play with my new toy. thank you guys for the info on the tail lift. i'm ordering the shark nose tail section and lookin for a set of lower handle bars. not sure if this is going to make the next 6 months fly by in anticipation or if the end of the tour won't come soon enough?! will definitely post pics come christmas!
