Hi, before I went for a spin today did my regular pre ride checks noticed when I looked at oil in swingarm there was some goo at the opening for dipstick not really in oil, checked with my harley dealer and my brotherin law, they say it was likely condensation, what do any of you say, thanks

Every time I go to a Harley Dealership to get maintenance done, I always get a very bad attitude in response! and Harley is way overpriced. but the goo, sounds like you might have your oil seal starting to break up and have the oil come up to the top and sludge up. hope this helps.

how long since you changed the oil? what brand are you using? with an air cooled twin, the oil in the tank will get quite hot, good spot to form some gunk at the filler cap, hot vapours mix with condensation, make some mayonaise. Wipe it off, check level, go for a good hiway run, check again, just condenation in tank. no sweat.[smirk]

if your in a "colder" region when you ride and then the bike cools condensation forms inside the swingarm/prim ary and gets into the oil the next time you run which in turn comes out milky white paste best thing is to change the oil. When the weather gets "normal" and you ride there will be less of a chance of condensation forming so the water will get "burnt/evaporated out when you ride. good luck

last oil change was 3000 miles ago done by dealer,I do live in an area of Alabama that goes from hot to cold,my bike has been ridden only some during this winter, now it is getting warmer am going to do all maint. needed.will be using screamin' eagle synthetic oil this time.:)

F HD and their over priced oil. run mobil 1 or amsoil, from some threads psoted here they seem to be the best oils you can get.
i went with mobil 1 ($59/cases on amazon) shipped for free and had it in 4 days.

any pics of it , what exactly did it look like . did you or a dealer or shop change your oil last ? could be condensation or possible someone laid it on some antiseize(or locktight) and not wipe it off , or maybe put some on it, if it was a shop or dealer not being carefull and trying to get it done fast .
