Race Muffler under the knife!

Well as some of you know my bike has a cut down Race Muffler, but I wasnt happy with how it was done by the previous owner. So I decided to cut it back apart and leave my mark.

Here are some shoots, already tested it on the bike and has a much more controled and deep sound to it, rather than the raspy noise I disliked as the setup was basically a straight pipe as you will see.

Here it is cut apart and you can see the dent in the front.

An inside shot, as you can see it was just a straight shot which exited out the left side outlet on the muffler. The packing was pointless, but I used it in the end.

Pulled out the packing and cut part of the pipe.

Hole sawed the nose in front of the screen you can see in the prior picture and stuffed it with packing. Figure this would help at the higher rpm's to stop the rasy noise I hate so much.

Welded in a U-bend piece of pipe to redirect the exhaust and add some back pressure.

All I need to do is drop it off to get powder coated, going with a Satin Black color, same as my tail piece so it will look the same as before just sound better.

looks good man.. I was thinking the same thing about my race muffler, but i dont have welding skills to put it back together. haha
 
Oh forgot to give props to my buddy for welding it up for me. I suck at welding so he did it for me (he is a welding engineer so he better be good), I just did the cutting and grinding.
 
So are you saying the original Buell race can had a straight through pipe or did someone modify yours to be that way?

The previous owner cut up a race pipe, and just left the straight shot in it. The stock race pipe has bends and what not in it.

i just bought my race muffler and from what I can see with flashlight and mirror, is like the pic above with a straight pipe with some small perforated holes and rear wall (#1) with small perforated holes like your pic shows, i ran some wire through it from front to rear it went straight through it into the rear chamber .. so its basicallly a perforated straight pipe into a rear chamber( similar to a regular XB muffler) and exits out the 2 rear exit exhaust tips.. pretty sure that between #1 & #2 walls is fiberglass packed .
 
Yeah the pipe did have about 1/2" of perforated pipe from what was left.

I wish I would have look closely to my old race pipe as well, but good description Native:)

I did have a normal/stock Race Pipe on my last bike and thoght it sounded great, but now this cut down one sounds even better. The only time I like my old one better is up above 5800 ish RPMs, the cut down pipe begins to get a but raspy, but I haven't road tested it yet either, just drove it around my apt parking area.
 
I will post another thread with the sound clip.

And Dave agreed, but it was done before I got the bike so I have to make the most of it.
 
Yeah, I know I got my money out of my old one and it was in overall good condition but needed to be repainted and was dented all up underneath.

I know with the way this one was setup before I cut it back apart I was losing power down low I could feel the difference between my bike and BuellChicks bike as the only driveline difference is the muffler, well before I did the 200mm tire and Ss swing arm.
 
Well just got the muffler back from pwder coat and for $25 it not only looks great but saved me so much prep and paint time, not to mention it would have cost me close to $25 just to do it myslef. Win/Win

Hell no, with here in the picture it actually makes it look worse since she is so hot. :p
