It's always a new problem with my bike.

Now it won't start most of the time unless the kickstand is up and it's been making this fast clicking noise when I try to start it.

I don't know what is causing it.

Can anybody help please?[sad]

Your post is a bit insulting. Most bikes won't start without the kick stand up. It's a saftey feature. And the clicking sound means battery didn't have enough juice to start the engine. So either needs a charge or a new battery. You should use Google search to diagnose such general motorcycle questions and then ask if you don't understand. [smirk]

'03 Xb9's are the only year with a kick stand safety so if you have a later year it's got to be something else. The clicking is mostly likely the battery. Look into getting a Deka EXT14 BIG CRANK battery, it's basically the factory battery, but doesn't say HD on it. Don't go cheap on the battery, you'll need every CCA you can get out of the battery. If the battery is good, it could be the starter itself. Make sure terminal connections are good and tight, also check your grounds.

Stamen, the 03 Xb9s I have has always started with the kickstand down provided that it is in neutral and will quickly shut off if it is moved with the kickstand down.

It recently started giving me the problem. Also, when I last took it to the mechanic they told me the battery was good. It's only a year old.

could be stand switch going bad or the cables on the battery are not tight they have to be tight + check the ground cable.

Also check the ground wires going to the frame! A while ago mine wouldn't start, so I bought a new battery and still nothing. Turns out it was just a loose bolt where the top of the engine mounts to the frame, right under the airbox. After that I ran a piece of 10 gauge wire from this bolt straight to the negative terminal on the battery, starts right up every time now without hesitation.

^ [up] I've seen this help some guys. I SHOULDN'T be required, but it seems it works sometimes. I was lucky enough that I all had to do to cure the same symptom was pull the cables, scuff them good with some nasty coarse sandpaper, (cables AND battery), and tighten them up good. [smirk]

My problem, similar to yours:

My solution, bad grounding from the vinyl that i wrapped around my seat rails. Run a jumper cable like i did to test your grounds.

Good luck [cool]
