So Friday night I road from mi to oh.
40's little rain loaded and napped a couple hours .
Trailered to asheville nc and road 300 ish miles today.
About 150 in my bike was not charging at idle.
Seems like I have another stator starting to burn.
It's only been 2500 since the last hd installed stator
So 700 miles from home and 100 miles from a buell servicing dealer for the second time this season.

That doesnt make any sense? I had mine done at 5400~ miles and am at 9,000 now and no issues? could there be something in your wiring harness that could be causing it to burn faster?

First stator 10,000 second stator 5,000 now the third 2500 mile these are a factory flaw.
And this is all to common...
Anyone know what trade in is? Think I see a triumph in my near future...

Hickory does not service buell I have knoxxville who damaged my bike last time or statesville tilley's and Mary ville how also scratched my swing arm

your experience has me really wondering if its worth it to buy an 1125. they are fun and super fast but if the stators dont last. how typical is this problem? does it affect all years?

seen that post and hd is blowing smoke up his a$$.

yes kona 09-10 have stators that suck.
2008 have crap rear turn signals and cluster that draw the battery dead.
lots of power love the bike when it runs but i need reliability. the only real fix is 08 parts the tune of about 1200 dollars.
Drive belts break at 15,000

this is R/T Cherry was logged on her desk top

Cluster drain (fixed with new IC & battery)
Clutch weep (5x so far, all fixed under warranty)
A few misc little problems, 26000+ miles. 2008 model.
No charging problems as of yet.

^^Thought they gave up on them, but haven't had a Buell in a while. I tend to stay away from them though as there is a smaller shop with a guy who rides a Buell and services them regularly who is priced much gentler to the wallet. Not sure how he does on the 1125's though. I have heard alot about the stators going on these and it is unfortunate. i really wanted one when they came out, but couldn't afford it. Few months after I get my new bike, they have the fire sales! Oh well...

Has anyone thought of making a vent in the stator cover to release some of that heat that accumulates in there?

probably a pretty simple solution.

I was looking to trade mine in last month...they said NADA was $5800.00. If they will actually do it is another question.

sounds like you have another problem that is killing them.it getting progressively worse 10,000 5,000 2,500 next will be 1,250 or sooner

Rt.....that sucks a$$..I am also wondering about the reliability off the stator that was just put in mine! I brought a extra stator with me on my trip to the dragon...not that I could put it in on the side of the road.Just to give me some assurance that it could be fixed if it happened. Really does suck having to worry about how long a stator will last.I totally agree with you on the reliability issue

I've been curious as to why HD/Buell changed the charging system design on the later bikes. Was it just a cost thing? The earlier bikes had a 3-phase system, which I believe was installed through 2007.

I wonder if a 3-phase setup could be retrofitted to an 08....(?) and if it would offer any improvement in reliability.

another idea (other than venting the stator cover) reducing the load as much as possible by switching to LED's everywhere you can? Not sure if you can change enough out to make difference... but it wouldn't hurt

venting the cover isn't really a pluasable solution you need oil spraying on it.
the only real soulotion is a 2008 stator and rotor.
but hd will not autho one.
I am burned out on this and am about to ride 2 hours in 40 degrees drisl to get a stator put in it.
another that will fail Yippie!!!
