For those of you that took the paint off the teeth on the rear sprocket, how and with what did you do it with.
I really like the look and thought about waiting to change my tire before i did this but i can't.
I'm guessing way easier to do with the wheel off but i have a swing arm stand and found that would work but wasn't sure what would be the safest/best way to do this and NOT damage the teeth.
Thanks for any input.
Justin

wondering if anyone went dremel and if so what should i be aware of and what wheel did they use?

I did mine with an air grinder with a 2" disk on it. I think it was 120 grit. I followed that up with 200 and 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper. you can do it on the bike, but away from the belt.

yup, multi-speed Dremel here, worked fine. i already had the wheel off the bike, def makes it easier (and cleaner).

I used the dremel stylus with a few sandpaper drums.. the powdercoating is pretty tough on there. If I were to do it again I would take the sprocket off the wheel and use a large flat table and swirl it on different grit sandpaper until nice and smooth. Dremel was fast but not the best job quality wise.

Finally did it with a hand file wrapped in 180 grit paper.
Took an hour to do but it's done.

Thought about that oxidizing thing so might just steal a jar of clear coat nail varnish off my wife and paint a thin layer on it... just a thought.
Thanks for all the advice guys.

I just let the raw aluminum brave the elemets.. not that hard to freshen up with a scotch pad. That clear coat seems like a good idea though :D

tha looks really cool, anyone tried to paint it a color yet? I would like to see some pics of that.

Details are everything. I just used a dremel and 220 grit. Then to polish, 600 grit with chrome polish for the wet part. Then a thin film of clear polyurithane.

I did mine on a paddock stand, with a 12" sanding block, both upper and lower belt guards on at the time. Making sure the block was touching the pulley on 2 points at all times to insure I wasn't rounding off any teeth. With 600grit I think I would make a couple passes, spin the wheel a bit, repeat. Instead of painting or clear coating the lip I just wipe it down with an oily rag, same treatment for the belt itself.

DAVE_XB12R - That paint you used on the teeth, is that the stock or as close as?? Spray or brushed on?

LVSLEEPER - Is that a red LED in your swing arm or light reflecting from somewhere else and what does the LV stand for?

I didnt think much of this mod at first but I'm really digging it now. LV, you've got a nice looking bike! The glow lights are tastefully done.
