Ok so i cannot seem to get my rear axel off...what is the trick? Is it lefthand or righthand threads? I hope im not the only one that has had this problem....and i dnt want to take it to the dealer because i have someone to swap my tires for me....thanks in advance [confused]

Did you check the service manual?...I haven't done it yet, just figured it'd be in there if anywhere...

Problem is...we got the front off and changed the tire and seen there was no anti-sieze on the axel...so im assuming they didnt put any on the rear...belt is off....pinch bolt is out, still wont budge.....im thinkin about taking it to the dealer and letting them worry about it seeing they put it new tires on it when i got it in the spring so....

uhm what about the 2 bolts on the lh fork-leg [confused]
think you really should invest in a manual

Make sure to anti seize the axle before you reinstall it...it will come apart much easier next time....2+,3+ and 4+ that pinch bolt.
And far as it not moving....try grunting a little and pucker the hole...works for me, but careful not to push anything out.:p
I have a huge 7/8" allen key that I found at a farm equipment store for like 30 bucks...its a BEAST, and it works like a charm.

well.....after fighting with getting the axle out we were succesful....there was no anit seize on it so it was a bear to get it out.....but when i re-installed it i was sure to put anit-seize on both axels so this will not be a problem in the future.

I'm gonna thread jack a bit...

I just got an XB12R. Need to swap rear tires. Is there any trick with removing/replacing the rear wheel with the belt and tensioner?

Or is it similar to a chain driven bike where I just remove the axle, after loosening the pinch bolt, drop the wheel and replace it all with no real regard for the tensioner, etc?

Thanks in advance!

SD26,
In the manual it states you should remove the belt tensioner. This is not nessesary I believe, but what ever you do be carefull with the belt. Dont pinch, twist, nick..etc.

loosen the axle, you'll get some play on the belt...

belt off sprocket, wheel off bike :p

According to my manual, it states 48-52 ft-lbs along with loctite for the rear axle.

Does anyone else use loctite? I never have.

i wouldnt use loctite on axle threads in any account i had to cut n axle nut off a customers bike 2 days ago(jap bike) granted the buell threads into the swingarm but i wouldnt advise it.

get a piece of 7/8" steel hex stock from a metal supplier or local machine shop. I could do a bunch for cheap if people were interested

Last I checked, the manual calls for anti-seize on the ends of the shaft, no locktite. I just did this last week so its fresh in my mind...

I always find it makes the job a whole lot easier if you remove the idler pulley.
