i have an 08 xb12r mine went out at ten thousand miles think the pressure wash job the day before got mine

Just so everybody knows, the SKF bearing # is
6006-2RS-1-C3. These are the top of the line bearings. The next one down from that is the 6006-LU (orange ones). I know this because I just had mine go out on me this last weekend and I just ordered them up.

My wheel spacer also looks like that pic Phyno posted and am wanting to know if it is ok to still use and if not, where should I go to get a new one? Thanks in advance.

ASB, American Sport Bike, that's where I got mine, but, as long as the lenght is not changed, is there still a smooth, chamfered end, and just the surface of the spacer scuffed you should be fine to run it, also, I cut 2 notches in the ends of my spacer to make changing the bearings easier next time,

WORD UP on the ASB page, hadn't looked around at all really but I will be picking one up just ot have on hand. Thanks again Luigi. One question for you though, I'm lost on why you cut the notches...

are the notches so its easier to get a lip when popping out the bearings? i went and got a brand new punch so i could grab them with a clean edge

Yep, it makes it easier to get on the bearing, as long as you don't change the lenght of the spacer, you can make the notches as big as you need to

I know this is an old thread but just thought I would let everyone know this failure just happened to my 03 xb9r and low and behold it has the pre-recall bearings, time to call the dealer tomorrow for the orange bearings

thanks
Ned Williams

depends on "HOW" you ride, my bike is full time transpo for me, '08 Uly bought new in May of '08, and I am on my 3rd set of front and rears, 46+k miles, I change both sets at the same time, I haven't yet worked out a "schedule" to prevent them from going out on a ride

What's so different about these bearings, and the factory bearings? Particularly the "new" ones, which I believe are part numbers (For a 2005 XB9R at least):

Rear: E0005.02A8B
Front: E0004.02A8B

I would have to imagine the bearings aren't too much different, as bearings are rather simple pieces, and have been made for a long time. Maybe I'm wrong, but I guess I don't see how one bearing could be so much better than another?

I just replaced my tires over the weekend, and my rear has a slight notch in it. You can't feel it on the bike, but when I was rolling the wheels while they were off with my fingers on the bearings I could feel a slight hitch on the rear. The shop that mounted/balanced my tires for me said that the bearing will be fine until my next tire change - I don't think I want to wait that long for fear of complete failure. What do you think?

Thanks!

Change the bearings, they are cheap and when they go out they can cause a lot of collateral damage, such as drive belt stretch and failure, I use SKF's, some use "All Balls", the few sets of those I have seen are Chinese,

Do you have the part numbers for the SKF front and rear bearings then? Do you order straight from SKF? According to ASB they recommend you replace the bearing spacer also, is that something that is really needed / recommended?

Thanks,
-Matt

the part #'s are here somewhere on the board, search for bearings and I'm sure you will find them, as far as where to get them, I get mine from a local ATV/lawnmower parts house, right at 20 bucks a set for rears and 14 or so for the fronts

I have a set of rear SKF 6006-2RS-1 new in the box and they were made in Italy PM me if you need them.
