So this just happened to me too. I was out for a ride with the boys from the Victory Shop. A little embarrassing...

Now that I've read this page, I'll have the mechanic replace the front bearings just to be sure. Thanks for the info, folks.

I just bought this 03 XB9R.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. 2003 XB9R. Is this something Harley has said they'd pay for, this seems insanely unsafe... It wrecked my rear rim, no bearing will fit in it any more... Anyone got an old rim I can buy?

Some pix...

Thing broke while passing trucks at over 100 mph... All in all a good day.

Thanks! Yeah, if it had decided to do something violent I would have had to test all my gear... No thanks. As it was, the tow dude was not carrying new under shorts... Which would have been useful.

Love me some SKF Bearings, all I use, took the one that was still in once piece to the local Farmer/lawnmower/ATV parts house, and he keeps them in stock, rears are ~20 bucks a pair, fronts 14, can't beat that, support your local guys when you can

Somebody on another thread suggested that the bearing failure is related to over-tightening the axle so, yeah, it might be related to tire changing.

Same with the original recall, it wasn't so much a bearing failure as an install error.

No idea how true all that is.

Anyone pls,
Is the front wheel bearing the same as the rear? SKF 6006-2RS-1-C3??? , this part number or can anyone tell me what part number i need in front, 08 XB12S?

nope, not the same, they are listed here somewhere, I think I had it posted on my front wheel bearing replacement post

You don't have to buy the bearings from a dealership. Save some money and go to a bearing supply store.

SKF and *** are about the best. NTN are also supposed to be good.

Avoid Chinese bearings, probably don't have to say that. There's a reason they're half the price.

6005-2RSH for the front bearing.

SKF part number is,
6006-2RS-1-C3 for the rear wheel bearing,
6005-2RSH for the front bearing.

Thanks guys!!!![cool]

Hey guys, I've got a '10 Ulysses XB12X that I just changed the rear tire on and one of the bearings felt a little rough. Are the above part numbers good for 2010 Uly's ? Look and felt like there are three bearings in the rear wheel. I'll go ahead and change the fronts too and prefer to use SKF's.

2010's have a different wheel, they came with the 3 bearing system which is the stuff, my 1st go around with xb bearing started with a 06 uly, did the recall and less than 6000 miles later blew the rears out again, after researching found out that harley used kbc bearing which are made in korea and they used a softer alloy to make their bearings, after the second time harley replaced the whole wheel with the 3 bearing wheel at no cost to me being that the dealership blew a big chunck out of my wheel, don't think anybody want to spend about 500 bucks to put one of these on,since then i've picked up a 09 uly and it don't have the 3 bearing wheel so im right back at the beginning, Ive been told that if you use a better made bearing such as skf and torque to spec's about every 6000 miles @ 52 ftlbs I think then your good to go but it all depends on your style of riding so the answer to the 2010 uly is no there not the same so ride on aabikrman

Hello,

I've ordered SKF 6006-2RS1/C3HT instead SKF 6006-2RS1/C3 for my Buell XB12Scg rear wheel. HT means "High Temperature" grease in the bearing. SKF 6006-2RS1/C3HT costs more than SKF 6006-2RS1/C3, so I was thinking that it means better capabilities. The size is absolutely the same. According these pages click and click the HT bearing uses dry graphite grease with polyurea thickener and has scale for temperature range –40 to +150 °C. Will it work correctly for motorcycle wheel or not? Will it work correctly on high rpm?
