I know there are a million right leg heat threads on here with the RSS being the best option. I even had a RSS in the past and it worked great. However, my current headers are not RSS compatible so I sold the one I had and went back to my stock scoopless plate on the right side.

Has anyone had success with heat shielding/blanketing? I know Spec Ops makes one for under the seat but I don't really have problems with my butt getting hot, it is all right thigh and only at low speeds.

Are you wanting to put the heat shielding on your pant leg? [confused]

I know what you mean just being a smarta# lol. I think you'd have to rotate the engine to get any heat shielding between the frame and engine. The 1125's come with shielding there from the factory. Not sure how much it'd help though.

maybe try the heat shield from the RSS kit on the header, item #4

Sorry maybe more question(s) than a solution: can you adjust the idle mixture or have someone adjust it? Seems like especially when using a K&N Air Filter the idle is hotter? At least I have noticed a difference since being remapped late last year. We have already had 80 F days and in stop and go traffic I have noticed a difference.

I do need to finish adjusting my idle, it is running rich on both cylinders; I've been more focused on riding RPMs. That heat shield is an idea, but I'm not sure how it would fit on since I don't have factory headers.

I guess I'll just get the tune more dialed in and hopefully that will help. Otherwise I'll have to head to the closest Walgreens and take 303's suggestion. :D

The headers are already coated.

Why don't you just wrap them with header wrap? If you don't like the look, just wrap the part near your leg. Get the good stuff, and when you install it… Use GLOVES.

My OEM headers were wrapped by the PO. When I took it off the wrap texture was burnt onto the pipe. Shortly thereafter the O2 bung blew out. The wrap may or may not have had anything to do with the metal fatiguing, but I'd rather not risk it and have to potentially get back in Dean's line again. Plus it would really stand out visually unless I got the black wrap, but then I would have to keep on top of it to make sure it stayed black. The wrap on there before was black but would fade after a couple months.

Shield yes, wrap no. I could have swore I saw something long ago that fit in the little triangle hole in front of the rear master cylinder. It was a little mini scoop or something along those lines. I cannot find it now though.

I think you might be right Cooter. The closest thing I can find is this but it is specifically for Ulysses, I doubt it would fit my Scg.

Strange though, I have seen arguments about specifically keeping that hole open for rear cylinder venting, but then Buell made a blockoff cover for it?

I wonder if the small RSS from later (2010?) XBs will clear my headers. Anyone happen to have some measurements?

Would the stock 2010 scoop fit? It's not as good as the big rss, but I can tell you from experience it keeps it cooler.

I think that might be the ticket. Looking at this picture I have from when I first put the headers on (never mind the filth) it looks like the 2010 scoop might fit.

I found the part number by googling but very few results; most people just go straight to the comfort kit RSS. Any idea if the dealer/ASB can still get it?

To answer my own question, yes the 2010 scoop is still available from dealers, though the price has gone up since the 2009 posting where I found the part number. No longer is it $16.00, after tax today it cost $27.81. As soon as it arrives I will update whether it fits (it really looks like it will).

My small RSS hasn't arrived yet (supposed to be late this week/early next week) but I gave my exhaust a once over and the rear slip joint near my right thigh was leaking a little bit (it wasn't seated straight), blowing hot air right on me. I took the springs off and got everything straightened out with a little bit of high temp sealant in the joint (doubtful the sealant will last). Once it cures tomorrow I'll go try it out, hopefully getting the joint aligned right will solve the majority of my problem.
