Went riding my TT saturday and my cooling fan started popping fuses , everytime I turned of the bike the fan would come on then immediatly stop. Got to looking at the fan and it has oil spray on it, and had spray between the rear cyl and frame. Took it to the dealer this morning and they said the rear rocker seals had given out and was blowing oil into the fan causing it to malfunction. Luckily my extended warranty plan is going to cover it, they're going to replace both rocker seals since they're taking it apart already and puuting in a new fan. They said this is a normal occurance on Buell and was wondering if anyone else had heard this .

My buddy has a 2008 Scg same happened on his, he doesn't have a warranty though he bought his used. Cool deal they are taking care of you.

They said the total repairs would be $863.00 !! THANK GOD I bought that extended warranty , all I payed is $50.00 for them to go ahead and get the parts ordered , said the parts should be here in 5 days.

Yea, the $50 is the deductible any time for repair . I had to pay the $50 upfront to get all the parts ordered and they said that was my complete out of pocket. [up]

I took mine in for a rocker box issue over summer. I thought it was a gasket, it turned out the entire rocker box needed to be replaced.

My rear rocker box gasket(07 XB9CityX) started leaking after 19000 miles and it did oil down the fan. I fixed it my self for under $30 by following the engine rotation instructions in the XB trouble shooting tread.

Mine leaks now. '08 Scg with 10k. As soon as I get my forks and shock back I'm going to rotate the motor and do it myself.

I have an 08 scg with about 12K miles and it's doing the same thing. Rear rocker box is leaking and shorting the fan! I'm going to fix it once it gets warm out!

I wonder what changed in these later models that make them prone to leaking. There is ~38,000 miles on my '03 9R and it has a hint of seepage on the rear cover. I'm waiting for it to be a problem so I can rotate and do a header change. Was there a cover or gasket change?

does anyone know the part numbers for the rocker cover gaskets? I need to order them.
Maybe there are different part numbers for different years?

Good call Livers. 04 w/ 28k and no leaks. Cadillac northstar moter had a couple bad yrs. with bad head gaskets and all GM 6cyl. lower intakes.... I'm couirious to see how many late yr. Buells are blowin these..

Lando-------The dealer told me mine were being replaced with a newer gasket design so i'm not sure what the part # is. They also told me this was an issue on many Buells once they had some mileage on them , IMO they should issue a service bulliten and replace under that. [smirk]

On my 2007 XBCityX the rear rocker box gasket part # is 16800-84A. Be sure to use the right amount of tork on the rocker box cover bolts these will break.

Same here, mines currently leaking a little.. gonna take it in and take advantage of my 50 dollar deductible =)

Are you guys leaking out of the flat seal in between the cylinder head and rocker box or the o ring type seal between the rocker box and the valve cover?

I'm assuming the flat seal since the oil is coming out and spraying into my fan. The dealer didn't specify , he just told me extended warranty would cover it , that's all I need to know.
