So I've been having an issue lately with the X1 running rough until it gets warm.

This is a 2002 X1W with a forcewinder and race ECM.

Fire it up, and it takes 5-7 minutes to get her going before she runs smooth and without a little throttle.

Now, occasionally I'll get an error light and it runs terribly. The error lights are code 14 & 15. Air temp and (I think) O2 sensor. After warmup, it's fine and runs like a top.

I don't want to keep running it through these hard times as I'm worried that I'm killing it slowly. My thought is to get the stock ECM back into it as I'm not racing the thing.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your advise!

If you have a stock ecm throw it in and see what happens, also check the wiring for the faulty components as well as the intake and exhaust manifolds for leaks.

14 engine temp sensor
15 intake air sensor

O2 would be 13

If you put the stock ecm back on you need to do a tps reset.

i had a bunch of errratic codes and could not keep her running, and it ended up being a fuel pressure regulator... just a thought

Well, I finally got under the bike to see what's goin on and found a missing motor mount bolt.....

Sheared the left bolt and the guy at ASB was on it. He seemed to know more about the problem than I did without even looking at the thing.

ASB just got $250 from me for the bolts and billet tie bar assembly and I'll get back to the codes.

Hoping that the engine rattling around like a freak was causing all of my issues...let you know.

Sooooo I've got the bike all back together and I have a pretty new billet aluminum motor mount sitting up front. I rode out to Thunder in the Valley and put her on the dyno there and was told that my fuel map is all over the place. I'm rich in certain areas, lean in others and the thing just cut out on him in certain places. He said I shouldn't ride it like that, but it's been running well as far as I can tell.

Question is if this guy actually knew what he had on the dyno. He didn't know that the Buell was a 1203 Harley engine, or that it was even a tuned up one. I also explained that there was a race ECM installed. SO if he didn't dial the machine in properly, would it have read properly or is that not how it works?

Just called Lance out at St. Paul, MN Harley. He was recommended to me by Erik himself. (I strongly suggest you friend Erik on FB, when he has time he will respond to you!) He said that running the stock pipe should be fine, it's going to run rich but not too bad. He suggested that I get the V&H pipe back on it though, when I get it sorted out. I don't want to mess with the maps, especially because the race ECM that's in there now is irreplaceable. So I won't be messing with that.... He said that those SS2r mufflers are worth their weight in gold. Too bad they're not too heavy...

Finally found the great video describing how to properly reset your TPS on YouTube. I've read it, but watching someone do it is much better for me.
So I'm going through the steps, and the one step tells you to get your engine to at least 140 degrees. I finally take a look at the engine temp on the screen of ECMSpy and it's 26 degrees and holding. I also got an error code while on the way home so I decided to check and see what that was, error 14. Engine temp sensor. Another call to Al at ASB confirmed that this is a trouble area on these bikes. So I should have the new sensor next week, and hopefully that's it.

Temp sensor delivered Tuesday, installed that night.
New plugs in, temp sensor was difficult but not terrible. Fired right up, test rode, smilin' Mike.

Hopefully that is actually it.

Check your plugs, kids!
