basically, in a nutshell
the AMA is a governing body for professional racing in the US. the elite american circuit, it has nothing to do with doing track days in your area
tracks govern their own track days, so you should check with some in your area, and see whats available
now in dfw, there are organizations that also facilitate these, they are
ride smart track school.
more of a learners environment, interaction with instructors, who are always on the track when you are. some classroom time as well. typically for the VERY FIRST track day experience, this is where i would recommend starting since its structed for beginner, interm., and expert and broken into these groups
and there is also
lone star track days .
this is one is nothing like a school environment, you pay your $$$ and smash your bike around the track (responsibly). still structured for beg, int, and expert. however, people here tend to already be seasoned for the track day experience and picked up a wealth of knowledge, therefore they don't see the need for something like ridesmart anymore. RIDERS ARE FASTER IN THESE, AND USUALLY WHERE LOCAL CLUB RACERS GET ADDITIONAL PRACTICE TIME.
research groups like htese in your area, gear and everything is explained on their sites, as well as what tracks they're runnign and when
hope this helps
and just my two cents on two piece suits, just another area prone to ripping apart in a get-off, the best suits minimize these areas where ripping apart tends to happen. so whey buy a suit that is literally held together by zippers?
