Wolf your bike looks great! Great pics and beautiful scenery. My bike is done and I have pics to post just haven't had time to downsize and post them yet. They will be on soon! -Baja

First off, as said before, many, many thanks to Nitto for the inspiring idea and thread!
Here are a few pics from my tail swap. Everything went back into the S tail well. I even had room for a little padding between the battery and the shock reservoir. A few things went different then I had expected: I did not end up needing to modify the S trunk pan or battery pan for rear shock clearance. On my bike the clearance is minimal but sufficiant even when the suspension is compressed. I also didn't end up needing the 5mm spacers at the bottom. The rails mated to the frame flush when fitted to the trunk pan. Lastly I did not have to extend the ground cable from the fuse box. I am guessing the differences on these things were due to the machining process and how the rails ultimately ended up. Another thing to note: after the rails were machined I had them rhinoed, which threw off the way the parts fit together due to the thickness of the coating. This required some sanding and shaping to make them to fit properly. I also had to raise the seat latch up 3/16" with washers to get it to catch the hook on the bottom of the seat.

I ended up cutting the fuse box holder/seat latch mount bracket in two and trimming off the plastic nubbin on the S trunk pan so everything would lay flush. However I would recommend, to anyone doing this mod, go ahead and order the mount for the S model. I made a bracket for the SS rear brake reservoir but I would also recommend ordering the S model brake reservoir, eliminating the need for fabbing a new bracket.

Nubbin, hard to see in this pic, but it is tiny and in front of the part that supports the seat latch.

Bars... I am thinking black Renthal with crossbar for mine. I don't if my wife will want hers changed or not. What is the bar diameter 7/8" ?
Oh yeah, and to quote Wolf, "There's a calender?!"
Burton, please tell us more.

Would love ot be in the calender. Oh well.
As for bars...i have the Hagen flat bars. Wide and would not want to go lower ;)
Cheers guys

...as my surname is Prime, it seem to fit well. :D

So what if a person wants to go from an S to an SS has anyone done a write up on that. I also was looking to do the S to SS swingarm other than the shock extenton spacer what else would i need.

jlrenken, I haven't seen a write up on S to SS. I do recall someone else asking about it, over a year ago though....search old DIY threads. If you end up needing SS parts I have take offs from my conversion. (seat, rails, trunk pan, battery tray, long seat release cable) All in great shape. I will be posting them on here and ebay the next time I get home. Probably mid to end of July. I do not have any swing arm or suspension parts though, as they stayed on the bike. -Baja

For the record:
A few people have shown interest in the SS parts for the 12x Ulysses.
That's a cool mod too, SS tail on a ULY. [up]

The Ulysses and SS share the same frame so the tail swap should be a direct bolt on. Could be a good way to offload your leftover parts after you switch from SS to S.

Heheh... should be, but it's not.
Quite a few things to be aware of under seat.
The guy that bought it off me (with a vast knowledge of bikes) came to a hault when certain cables and undertrays became involved... from memory.
Not overly difficult, but prepare before diving in.
Cheers.

Hot damn, if only I had alternate means of travel. Meaning I can't do this mod, even though I want to so desperately!!! It's my DD and if I can't get to work, I'm fired :( great job though!!

Decided to bring back this old thread because it is kind of a brain storm on how to do this mod and was really usefull to me doing the S tail conversion

maybe someone did the same as i but i didnt saw it on line yet so here it goes

12522_20150201135447_L.jpg

to solve this problem i decided to go with a no turning back solution

12522_20150201135527_L.jpg

all i need was this: Metal repair paste, 22x5mm spacers, 3/16 UNC tap, 1/4 inch longer bolts, 6,5mm pre-tap drill and a 8,5mm pointing and spacer offset drill (sorry i´m in the metric system :)

12522_20150201135627_L.jpg

filled the existing thread hole

12522_20150201135748_L.jpg

fitted the spacers and with the subframe in place using the 8,5mm drill pointed out where the new holes should be and used the same drill to overpass the spacers

drill the frame with the 6,5mm drill and tap it in the new spot

12522_20150201135916_L.jpg

where magic or bullshit hapends :)

12522_20150201140012_L.jpg

and ready for test ride!

If you need a SS/STT complete subframe i need your money... :)

Tail coversation xb12ss in xb12s

Well this mode was a little more work than I initially thought, but it worth it in my opinion. Hopefully this will help those who are looking to do the same.

The first thing you will need is the seat rails and under trey from the S model. I got mine off of ebay for about 180 dollars. You will also need to purchase the S model seat release cable.

The seat rails will not fit on the Ss without modification, so there are two solutions to this problem.
The first of witch is to have a adapter made similar to this one which is courtesy of AnderSTA from BuellXB. The advantage of this setup is that there is no need to modify the seat rails, and you will not have modify the seat latter in the mod.

This is what it is correcting

This is what I had done. The advantage to this setup is it is stronger and cleaner looking, but you will have to modify your seat later in the mod.

I went to a fabricator and had him modify the top of the rail and add a spacer were the bottom attaches to the frame.

Once your seat rails fit properly you will have to modify your under tray to make room for the rear shock, because of this you will also have to move your battery forward by cutting the metal tray the battery sits in so that it forms a tab that pushes the battery forward.

Hi guys I'm new in this forum, I hope someone can help me.
Im trying to convert my xb12ss long tail in a xb 12s,
Is not clear if I also need a xb12s subframe? Or just under tray and plastic frames from xb12s? Thanks

Yes mate you need the subframe, just the left and right seat rails as i call them! the cheesegrater or rear light mount are the same so your SS one will fit the S subframe/rails!
