Scala Rider G4

I would really like to get a set so I can talk to my daughter when she rides with me.:D

Oh I forgot try and get the corded mic set for some stupid reason there listed for snowmobile . The boom mic is pretty thick and is hard to fit in a full face without touching your lip.

does the G4 play your music from your iphone using bluetooth? or do you have to plug it in like the q2

I use the cord to my ipod but if you have omething like bluetooth on your phone you can play music from that. Cord uses less battery

Love my G4. Well worth the money. Easy to use, although I did have a temporary blutooth link problems with my blackberry. But I got that taken care of. Have mine for almost 2 months now. Wouldn't ever ride without one now.

it is not loud enough to hear with ear plugs.

I would disagree with that part of the review. I always wear ear plugs when I ride. I have a scorpion 900 helmet, open airbox, and loud hawk exhaust. Unless the headsets are starting to die I can hear my wife just fine. Other than that I agree with RT 100% on the rest of the review.

They do now offer it with a corded mic instead of the boom mic

I guess I don't know what a corded mic is? Is that like the ear buds with a mic that come with an iPhone? Would that also eliminate the speakers with use of headphones?

Gotcha. Thanks. One of the negative reviews I watched was for the previous Generation Q2 was the stress on the boom mic and that it eventually broke off at the connection point. Corded mic seems much more durable.

Thanks cherryskullz for the link.

Okay so I looked on there website and I can't find out how it mounts to the helmet. I really don't want something hanging on the outside of my helmet because I really like to haul ass when the road is clear enough. Something on the outside of the helmet, besides the vents, creates a lot of drag even tucked and at speeds could start to pull ur head to one side or the other.
So can someone tell me where it is positioned please thks

It clamps to the side of the helmet. I've had mine as I said for like 2months now and no noticeable drag or extra noise including cruising at like 80mph for long periods of time and short runs well over 100mph . I have a RF1100 helmet just for reference.

The radio and radio dock mount ont he outside of the helemet.
I had to use the sticky and achol prep pads been well over the 100 mark and not an issue.

I put a GoPro on my helmet every now and then and I can feel it a little bit but not enough to cause problems or even discomfort and it's more than twice the size of the g4. I was looking at one on a guys helmet last week. I couldn't see that causing any problems with drag.

The flipside of that is, by putting it inside the helmet could cause injury if you go down and hit your head where that would be mounted. Wouldn't be a very good design inside the helmet in my opinion.

I have a Parrot bluetooth helmet set. It works well enough. http://tinyurl.com/3tnwa66
Pros:
- Stereo Headset tucks into helmet lining. Headset is barely loud enough. Parrot claims due to
- Mic picks up well while cancelling wind noise. Listener feedback is good.
- Connects to cell phone, stereo audio (on cell and ipod), and has built-in radio
- answering the phone and changing functions is easy enough

Cons:
- Clamps to a single helmet. Takes time to swap between helmets.
- dialing while riding is basically impossible

Overall rating: 4 out of 5 - Recommended

I picked mine up on amazon or ebay for ~$50. Well worth the coin.
Edit: Might not be relevant, but I'm biased against Scala gear. I've had Scala BT headsets in the past and didn't care for them.

So I went by cyclegear today inquiring about the g4, wanted to put my hands on it, ask some questions, AND seeing if they'd match competitor pricing, which Revzilla has it on sale for $219. Plus ($10)revzilla bucks. Cyclegear $259

The guy wasn't real happy about my price match question which I understand, but hey $40 is $40! In a not so pleasant tone, he then proceeded to tell me to hurry up and buy it from Revzilla while i can because they're about to get shut down.

The obvious question was "why would they get shut down?" He says that he talked to the Scala rep today as a result of all the price match inquiries on the g4 and the rep said Revzilla purchased those on "the black market" which is why they're selling below everyone else's cost. I asked if the product was authentic and he said yes, but there wouldn't be warranty support!

So the question begs:
Would a reputable motorcycle parts/accessory distributor such as Revzilla buy and resell stolen goods, or do we have a bitter sales guy?
