there is storage under my seat right? i cant get it to open tho. the key only turns about a quarter of a turn maybe less. the seat seems to "pop" loose at the rear, where the latch is, but i cant get it to lift open. is there a trick?

after the seat "pops", pull the rear part of the seat, then push it backwards. it should release.

Also make sure your latch isn't dried out, a quick spray of some penetrating oil will help too.

Under the seat is the normal latch, but there are also to "L" shaped hooks, which is probably what's catching. Once it pops just grab the strap, or the sides of the seat and try to slide it straight back.

Don't get too excited though, underseat storage on the lightnings is a joke. You make have a little more since you have the Ss. On my S I can fit a tightly pressed in bungee net and a small granola bar and I'm pretty much maxed out. Gone are the days of the SRAD tail that let you carry some shoes, a jacket, extra gloves, a sandwich and a bottle of orange pop.

I have the same problem on my ss. Like uptyemaiden said the L shaped hooks are keeping it attached.

I usually unlock the latch then push down where the hooks are and slide back and that works.

So what you're saying is...you have a lightning? :p

The seat latches suck. There is no storage. With the key held at that 1/4 turn, pull the seat BACK, then up...it'll go eventually

I had problems with my seat too... and then I was looking through my manual and it says to pop the seat lock (rear of seat releases) and then with with your hand at about the middle of the seat, PRESS firmly against the seat in an up and back motion - it actually works pretty well on mine. I think pressing on the seat must help release those side hooks rather than pulling up against them.

All of the seats are different too, which is annoying. My low seat is difficult sometimes when I try to put the seat on, and I've gotta give it a good push to latch. The tall seat I have just slides into position effortlessly and latches. Some seats are just tougher than others.

Push the seat down a little while pulling back to the rear . Make sure the locks lubed & not bent. lube the key tumbler as well.Cable sometimes needs attached to an area, depends on which bike.

its just like you guys said. press down and back. comes right open now.thanks a ton. except there is nothin but a battery under there! no storage whatsoever. haha
