Not sure if that's the exact cause, but I recently replaced the shift lever. When I put it on, I simply unscrewed the old one, put the new one on. Didn't seem like rocket science.

A few days later, I was riding down the road, the shifting became super soft, looked down and the bolt had come loose. Luckily I caught it before it fell off, so I tightened it and was on my way.

Then last night on the way home, it again became hard to shift, I looked down and all seemed well. I got home but it wouldn't go below third gear.

After about an hour or so of the bike being off, I was finally able to shift it up and down again in the driveway.

Is there some trick to replacing the shift lever? None of these issues cropped up until I changed it. Does it have to be super tight? A little loose? It feels like it's not travelling enough, but it doesn't always feel that way.

Please help, I want to avoid any tranny damage.

ok amigos, 50 some views and no answer? No worries! I think I figured it out on the way home Saturday. I think that when I put the new lever on, I didn't set it at the exact correct angle, it has too much, or too little play in either direction, a little fiddling with it should do the trick. Now that I know the issue, I've been able to shift through all the gears without any problems! Hope this helps someone else sometime!

Good job if its too tight it wont shift good, best thing i recommend is put some light grease on the bolt towards the top not the threads and some blue lock tite on the threads.

Thanks amigo, is the blue loc-tite the light or the hard loctite? I can never remember.

The lite stuff it will come back off with a wrench.red lock tite you need a torch usually.if your shifter is super tight when you have the bolt snug, then it might be good to shave a little metal off of the back side, and make sure the bushing is clean,a simple task that can be a pain in the ass
