Is the any major reason to get your bike serviced at the dealership? Can taking it to a local shop or doing the work yourself create any warranty issues or other problems? There is only like one dealer left in the Denver area that will touch Buells. They are good people there, but a bit pricey. I came across a local shop that is soooooo much cheaper and I am thinking of getting all my services done there. Does anyone advise against doing this?

which one are you talking about? i bought my Ss at high country in frederick and they seem pretty cool and willing to work with us buell guys. i was planning to take mine in for the 1st service but probably just do it on my own after that. i also need to get my 03 firebolt in there soon to get the headlight recall taken care of. i'm up in wyoming and that's the closest one to me.

I would advise to get the first service done there, then do your own after that. Keep all receipts for your records. The problem you can come into is that if something goes wrong, they can blame it on you since you didnt get the bike serviced there. Its really easy for them to do.

My dealer is 2+ Hours away. For 5k service i was looking twards 360...did oil, plugs and filter...160 was cost for the tricky stuff. DYS or local shop more conveinent to deal with[up]...usually more personal

I do my own services. And it cannot void the warranty. Unless you screw something up while doing them, then the repairs may not be covered.

Yep, about 360 or so for the bolt and 260 or so for the 1125. It is more than just an oil change and a test ride, they do ALOT of stuff that isnt your normal everyday maintenance.

I would just like the simple stuff to be done by me save time and money local everything else...big services 10K Buell can do[up]

Get mine done at a local shop, the local dealership is way too expensive. I do the oil changes and the nitnoid stuff myself.

Had mine done at my local dealer until warranty ran out,now am trying to do most work myself unless not able on some things,my dealer is pretty cool with us buellers.

If you're not a mechanical type thinker, take it to someone else or the dealer. If you're a mechanical thinker, you should be able to tear your bike down successfully, there for any and all work should be done by you.

in the owners manual it says what the dealership is suppose to do at different intervals. they are simple things you should know for yourself. I noticed at 5k they are suppose to do a steering bearing resistance check. I suppose if you didnt have that done, and had a bearing related problem that would be a problem. I'de ask them if you could only pay for that test, if your bike is still under warranty. Spark plugs arent even replaced until 10k.

I guess the major reason is so you don't spend all your retirement on motorcycle techs and end up livin in a R.V. down by the river.
