Ok, as I understand it my Firebolt has the same headlight bulbs (high-low) but different lenses. Has anybody changed out the low beam lense housing for a high beam? And what about those "blue" lights" not the HID's if you know what I mean. Any difference? Thanks, Wayne

I'm fairly certain that the lowbeam just has a steel plate in it blocking light from shining up. You can disassemble the light assembly and remove it.

I run a yellow light in my lowbeam, it's cool, but not as yellow as I anticipated.

There is no high beam or low beam. There is only a spoon held in by 1 screw that deflects the light. I removed it in about 35 minutes. It's really easy to do. [up][up]

Buell_Cru and midnight, I'm heading to the shed!!! Thanks so much!!! Points for you guys if it works, if not, you're screwed!! :D:D (just kidding, thanks) Wayne

If any of you still have the cover I would be interested in it. I am just the opposite. I want to run 2 low beams all the time. More light but not blinding other drivers. If you got one let me know.

Thanks

i think many of the guys seem to run 5000k-6500k light which still has a tint of blue, but nice light, my HID i just installed is 4500k and looks almost pure white, small tint of blue on warmup but then fades out

the low beam and high beam are different. one reflector is actually longer than the other. the spoon is a part of it but not the whole thing. you will need a new lens for a proper swap. I have a high and low beam that I would be willing to sell if you decide to go that way.

Here is a shot of what the inside of the low beam looks like, if you want you can just take the light apart and remove it, just held in with a screw.

Ok. Took all of 25 min. to get the job done. Great advice guys. Rep points on their way. Thanks,Wayne

k guys i actually just shaved my reflection plate down, so it wouldn't blind everyone. For those with HID's (like me), it makes a huge difference! Makes the low beam more usable by itself.

I'm a Firbolt Owner, so I'm not sure what the Lightning setup is like.

Hopefully someone will chime in and help you out jmcrutch

Is this about the same thing in the XBS models? I want to run two low beams with my HIDs.

it wont be easy. the high and low beams are one molded reflector. if you put two low beams on the bike you would have to cut apart two reflectors and fab them back together in proper alignment.
not a simple task but do able.

for you guys removing the spoon reflector or wanting to add it in to change the profile of your lights there is a larger difference than just that.

the reflector profile for the high and low beam are different. one is set to be a short and stubby beam and another to be a longer throw. the only thing the metal plate is for is the cut off it does not control the width or throw of the beam. this is done with the shape of the reflector surface and the contour of the lens glass.

the other problem is that in America our low beams kick extra light up and to the left to illuminate overhead and road side signs. two low beams will still splatter with HID bulbs and will not give you a full light pattern on the right.

a EURO spec light beam has less splatter and less stray light due to the street designs there. if you want to stop lighting people up with your HID's pick up a UK low beam and a low beam from maybe Germany. this will give you the even coverage you desire without all the stray light inherent in HID swaps

Yeah don't even get me started about the poor American headlight standards. They are horrible. Way too much stray light, way too much glare, poor cutoff, poor distance illumination, lack of vehicle height standard, etc...

SAE FMVSS 108 standards are rediculus compared to the ECE regulations. ECE have excellent cutoff, well defined pattern, and no glare! As an accident investigator and cop I have been campaigning for years to get SAE standards changed to no avail. Now with the advent of cheap HID retrofits everybody installs HID's with even more glare in a poorly designed housing. 25% of vehicles on the road have annoying glare. Not even mentioning the HID retrofits that are just rediculusly blinding. Nothing better then a big SUV with HID's in the low beams and fogs blinding everyone on the road. Thats a $120 fix-it ticket.

On my last vehicle I installed new ECE spec headlamp housings and they were awesome. Great lights with no glare!

And don't even get me started about the 9004/9007 dual filament bulbs. Those are an abysmal failure. Instead of crappy low beams you now have crappy low and crappy high beams.

Ok I am off my soap box now. I could spend the next 4 hours discussing headlights.
