so I was driving into work this morning and as I was pulling up to a stop sign I was signaled over to the side of the road by a state patrol officer. apparently I got clocked by a plane doing somewhere around 70 or 75. the only time I would've been doing this was when I was passing a semi otherwise my speed was back down to like 58. so my question is what would you do if you got a ticket based on speed checked by airplane?

Wow, your state must have a balanced budget and or surplus. In California they stopped using planes for that about 15 years ago because of the cost. Why would they want to pay for a plane, pilot, co pilot, fuel, insurance and maintenance to catch speeders? What a waste of funds.

the only thing I said was that I know I had passed a semi, nothing saying a speed and I know the semi wasn't even doing 55.

I know I sped up though because I didn't want to get caught beside the semi if someone was speeding from the other direction and popped over the hill

I'm going to request a video as that would be the only way of proving it being me, but I actually doubt the officer will show up considering he's a state patrol and he's known for actually patrolling and has an award because he logged like 1000 hours of patrolling the interstate.
these flood detours are starting to really get on my nerves

oh and I was in my car not on my bike, so it's not like I was easy to spot other than maybe the color

I believe most states have the 10-15% allowance in order to over take traffic.
I believe that they have to prove you were travailing that speed for a prolonged period of time.
Now what that period of time is, is up to them.
Of course it all goes out the window if you did any part of the passing in a no passing area.
Which if its a hilly area, I can't believe it was a passing area.

I would tell the court it was a safety precaution, the semi was kicking up dirt and rocks.Just state besides passing the semi you always watch your speed and are a very safe rider. Can't see how they can give you a ticket after that. Also if you ware safety gear bring that up to to show that safety is your first priority.Goodluck

it was a passing zone, and it's plenty long if people are coming over the hill at reasonable speeds. and he was kicking up rocks and I already have two chips in my windshield from being stuck behind semis like that.

Take it to court and NEVER admit to speeding. Three questions you need to ask and right to answers -

1) evidence of your violation - video, picture, and testimony
2) method of speed determination - radar, laser speed detection, timing...
3) proper use, maintenance, and training on the method

With there you can raise doubt about the equipment, the officer's training, and/or credibility, which will give you the best chance of dismissal.
