Question: I just ordered a right side scoop from surdyke. I ordered both part numbers for inner and outter scoop. I just wanted to double check where it mounts, and I see there is already a small scoop attached to the mounting holes. Has the previous owner possibly installed this, or is this factory? Do I remove the piece pictured when I install? Bike is a 2003 xb9r

If its in the way remove it :D
I believe its factory my xb9sx has that small scoop as well. The aftermarket is larger than that one. Two holes up front and the third that holds the tail is a little further back, if you look at the left side one mounts similar to that one.

Thank you. I will be removing it. At a closer look I can see how the new one mounts. The inner scoop is just held by the 2 existing bolts in the front and the outter bolts to that.

your fuzzy pics seem to depict the stock factory right side scoop. remove it and save the large phillips head 1/4X20 button screws. you'll need them to attach your new inner scoop which requires that hardware to attach to stock mounting points. the large outer scoop attaches to your inner scoop. you'll also need 3 of the below part # to bolt outer scoop to inner. no attachment possible without them. an1005.3fss X3
