Okay guys well next weekend I am doing a bunch of things to my bike and adjusting everything and it's about time for new plugs, I have seen some reccomend the NGK iridium plugs and magnecor wires over the standard plugs/wires. For those of you that have swapped to the iridium plugs/magnecor wires, did you notice any difference versus the factory ones?

Also, for an XB9, 7mm, 8mm, or 8.5mm wires?

Thanks,
Spencer

Assuming your motor is essentially stock (ie no head work, high compression pistons, cams etc.) the biggest performance gain you'll see with iridium plugs is longevity. It can be a bit of a pain for those with sausage fingers to change the plugs on an XB, so iridium plugs are a definite advantage there.

You may also notice better starting & less missing, but I suggest that has as much to do with the fact you'll have fresh plugs, iridium or not. Again, the big advantage is that iridiums stay fresh longer.

Similar suggestions on the leads. Other than durability, the larger diameters are really only necessary if you are running aftermarket high output coils. The 7mm will be your best value.

I did this maintenance recently and used NGK Iridium plugs and the 8.5mm Magnecor wires. The NGK Iridiums plugs made a very noticeable difference coming from the original plugs. The wires, I don't suspect, made much difference.

Overall, the bike starts easier and runs more smoothly, post maintenance.

iridiums last longer and resist fouling better.

I have the magnecor wires and i like them because they are good quality and made here in Michigan. It's easy to be sure the plug wire is seated properly on the plug. I doubt there any real gain from it.

I used iridiums with Taylor/Vortex 8mm from Ironmachine with good results. Just remember to use anti-size on the plugs and dielectric grease on the plug boots

Thanks guys, have any of you been able to find the iridium plugs locally at auto parts stores or have you had to order them online?

I think you can get a bundle of plugs and wires that include iridiums from IronMachine. I plan on changing mine over winter with what they offer.

Yea i just go to advance auto and sometimes they have the plugs in stock and sometimes they will have them in a day or two. A lot of them don't know how to look up by the ngk number but they can do it. Go easy on dielectric grease, there is a decent description of why on magnecors website.
