anyone else here ever mount speakers somewhere on their firebolt?

I know many of you will say not to do it, but I'm not looking for those answers...only those that will help me thank you

Just bought a kit for 60 and am considering several locations for the speakers:

Mounted on the passenger peg brackets.

Inside the fairing(very tricky for this one).

On either side of the engine. One above the pipes, the other mounted on the left air scoop.

thats it so far...here is what I got:

I going to take a shot at this and say if you mount them anywhere but insiderhe fairing you are going to lose most of the sound from wide noise.

It may be a little tricky to mount them inside the fairing but it will b your best bet, also on the pegs and or the sides of the engine will simpley look horrible.

My vote is inside the airbox but you really need to get creative and do an air bix delete and then figure a way to mount them inside where the air box was and just perferate the airbox cover to allow the sound to cone out.

Thanks for the input.

Inside the airbox would def be sick, hide them, and let them be heard still. lot of work tho, but probably worth it.

How close is the inner cover to the outer cover?...if I mount on the inner cover this might be an issue.

Also, i forgot to mention they have a casing, they are not open speakers

If the pic of that chic holding it is accurate you should be able to mount them under the air box and then mount/tuck the amp behind the battery, there is a lot of unused space under the tail behind the battery. Note to fit under the air box cover you will have to do a airbox delete which is pretty easy. I just cut a piece of 1/8" plastic to the same shape of the filter top and screwed it to the filter and it was done.

My only concern would be the heat of the amp and speaker vents so some type of cooling holes would be great on the underside of the tail but you would have to watch where the water would go fir cooling the amp. And as far as the speaker vents that would allow heat from the engine to flow out onto you adding discomfort so I would highly recommend some of the sticky sided heat blanket under the lower air box piece to deflect the heat.

Otherwise I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do it. Just take your time and think it through otherwise it will look and sound horrible.

I started a post on this a few months ago, with the same speakers, it's a pretty sweet idea, i was thinking of flush mounting them (somehow) in the airbox. not completely underneath the airbox, just in it. I settled with the Cardo, Scala rider system for the time being (which is pretty shweet) when things settle down i will put more thought into it. But post some pics if of what you end up with and let use know your results...

xtreme...I like your idea, but I was thinking of mounting them on the inner airbox, and then having vents on the outer airbox to let the sound thru...

I know the area you are talking about for the amp location, but like you said temp might be an issue. I was probly just gonna throw it in the under seat compartment, because there are controls on the amp like volume and on/off that I'll need to access.

Gator, the tank bag is cool, but not really what I'm looking for on my bike. But good for this topic tho, thanks.

Sayjack, I want to do exactly what you had in mind. I'll post pics of how it comes out.

Thanks all

I guess you could mount them to the inner airbox sort of like recess them into it and ten make vents on the outer airbox. That may work, but either way I would suggest the get blanket under the airbox for the airflow out through the rear vents.

I finished it. Ill take pics later because it was hard to get the cover fully on and I wanna ride NOW, but it turned out awesome.

Didint even have to cut vents to be able to hear it, but probly will in the future.

This ROCKS:D

Thru helmet in town but not on highway. can hear thru outer airbox cover...its awesome.

I'll post pics when I get home and have the chance to take some.

Brought it to a concert last night and EVERYONE was around it checking it out and talking about it, HUGE conversation started.

First theres the fact that its playing music from seemingly nowhere, then the fact its a vtwin engine in a sportbike, then the balls hanging from the back :) hahaha

Hendro are you using the stock muffler? I always wanted to install speakers on my bike but I wasnt sure if I would hear the music well over my muffler. I have a Jardine

Im using a jardine. can still hear them at lower speeds around 30 or so, but above that and then theres too much air noise and exhaust noise. but rolling thru town it can be hear!!!

I thought you were going to mount them on the back of the airbox, but looks clean.

Did you just stick them to the outside of the box or did you have to cut some of the side out so they sit inside the box?

Had to cut some of the inner airbox...basically just 2 3/4" diameter holes and then there are screw holes in the speaker housing to hold them to the inner airbox. Added sealer for protection (liquid nails)

Nice I would cut out some accent vents to allow the sound out without any interference, you can hear the baffle caused by the top airbox cover.

But good install. [up][up]

Very nice
how do you change songs if its stored under your seat? and do you have to turn the amp on and off everytime? or do you have hit hooked up to a remote wire that turns on with the key?
