Hey guys i live in Cedar Rapids, Ia and they have installed speed cameras on interstae 380 that goes through cedar rapids, there is a red jeep grand cherokee that is a mobile speed camera that the cops put all over cedar rapids, and there are a bunch of red light cameras throughout town. I think it's a bunch of bull shit, but the real reason for this thread is so we can warn each other about speed traps, or places in different cities that cops patrol very frequently. so if you are going through cedar rapids dont speed and dont run red lights.

http://www.trapster.com/ is the best way to find where they all are... speed cams, red light cams and all in real time. They even have phone apps that will alert you as you approach! If there's a new trap you know of, post it!

I also live in Cedar Rapids. There are roughly 8 Red light" cameras in town that also grab you for speeding. As well as I believe 3 on 380 now. Two of which are in the north bound lane and synced together to know if you speed between the two cameras.

I have gotten one ticket, but it was in the first week during the 'testing' phase. So I got a ticket with a $ 0 fine... Did get a sweet action shot of my SUV though, which you can download online.

haven't gotten sent a ticket yet, but I don't think the cams have gotten a shot of my plate and the guys in the patrol cars don't care. only time I got pulled over for speeding the guy wanted to know what brand my bike was lol

Yeah, feel bad for you guys, I'm in Sioux Falls SD and we had 1 red light cam...that got repealed and all the tickets were refunded :)

I don't really mind the red light cams, but speed cams just suck. Sounds like I'll stay away from Iowa I guess

albuquerque, NM has cameras, but they recently decided that they have caused more accidents because people dont know if they should slow down to avoid a ticket, or speed up to avoid running a red. They recently lost the contract for them all, but will only ticket the red light runners once they re-do the contract with the company, not the speeders... so speed away!

Just another example of taxation without representation. We once fought against this bullshit to not happen to a "free" people.
Me, I think its time to start following in our ancestors footsteps and the UK camera opponents that are actually burning, breaking, shooting and just generally destroying the cameras.
Just my opinion mind you................ ;)

Jim

Actually Ronin this isn't taxation it's a fine for breaking a posted speed limit. However, if it was taxation there is still representation because "we the people" elected the individuals into their position. Whether you agree with the politics and reasoning they are elected official, not monarchies beyond reproach. If you noticed the latest election results you will see that we do indeed have representation and the system is working.

Now, I personally think it blows that there speed cameras and traps but breaking the law is breaking the law whether law enforcement pulls you over or the man finds you in the mail. I say if you wanna speed go right ahead, just be ready to pay. Or better yet, hit the track where it's sanctioned.

Mikellyjo I agree with you 100 percent I never speed anymore I used to cheat the speed limit 5 mph or so, but not anymore and I plan on going to the track next year I was just posting this as a warning to anyone on here that likes to speed to watch out for the cameras, and warn us of any other ones, and I also came from a small town with one stop light so I thought that this was crazy when I moved here

mikellyjo, Do you want to live in a nanny state where everything you say or do is monitored and/or fined if deemed illegal or inappropriate? I sure don’t.
I have a right to face my accuser (the police) otherwise it IS taxation without representation. Get it, no human involved in the persecution but I pay money. See how it works?
I speed every single day sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. :p
Then again I dislike unmarked cars and consider them an entrapment device. If you’re an LEO you should be positively identifiable as such if on duty.
And please don’t tell me you’ve never broken the law. We ALL have, its impossible not to! There are over 20,000 laws just for gun control in this country for Christ’s sake!

Jim

Here in CA we have a lot of Highway Patrol lidaring and radaring. But we also have a thing called "trail by written declaration" which allows you to fight your ticket through the mail. I'm 2 for 2! No points on this jerks record.

australia is full of speed cams,They are pure revenue raisers. They dont stop you from speeding, half the time you dont see them.Like Ronin1 I speed olso, half the time, just keeping up with traffick flow.I hate cops with a passion,But when they pull someone over,At least they have stopped them from speeding,at the same time the rider/driver,may be on drugs or pissed, and taken off the road.this may save your or my life.Speedcameras just fill the governments pockets. Its atotal ripoff[mad]

JJ, I like the idea behind your post. I don't want a ticket anymore than the next guy. But I am willing to pay the piper when I get caught. Because yes Ronin, even I have broken the law on occasion, but I see no need to involve Christ in it other than for forgivess for not following the laws of those appointed over me.

I was merely arguing Ronin's statement that we are being unduly taxed. Unless you are being forced to pay for a basic necessity in life (ala the Boston Tea Party incident) then you are not being TAXED...you are being FINED. Semantics, possibly but by definition you are not being taxed when you are given a speeding ticket. Of course if you telling me that breaking the law is our right constitutionally, then you better be able to show me where in the Constitution anarchy is allowed.

Taxation without Representation as coined by James Otis in 1764 and simply means that we will not pay Taxes with out a house or assembly approving it. It makes no mention of fines imposed for speeding. Now if you are going to tell me paying a late fee, or parking ticket, or ATM usage fee is taxation without representation then we are at a ideological impasse.

Speaking of breaking laws...how many of those 20,000 gun control laws have you broken that directly affect your daily quality of life.

There is a way to avoid a ticket for the speed camera. I don't mind red light cameras cause they really for your safety too.

I use to live in Poland and they put bunch of speed cameras all over the Europe. So somebody invented clear spray paint to paint over your license plate. When you got caught by speed camera and had the paint applied police would get a nice pic of your car with glowing white square in the place of your license plate. I don't know if the paint is still available.

Another way, as tested by Top Gear, is to drive over 170mph by the camera and it will not go off at all. I wouldn't recommend it though.
