I dont get it ,when you say your fan is almost always on.My 08 fan in 14 thousand miles has only been on with the ignition off.Ive been told by the techs that its pourpose is to cool the rocker boxes when the bike is no longer moving and oil not circulating.because the rear and part of the front cylinder beinging covered by the chasis the heat takes longer to disperse and can cook the oil now trapped up there when the bike and oil pump are no longer in motion.

I have no idea. All I know is after the latest program the fan is on a lot after the bike warms up. Seems to be switched on and off by speed once it is initially triggered by temperature. I am getting used to it but it makes me wonder what it is doing to the lifespan of the fan motor.

Also the iridium plugs made no difference to the hard starting issues. Took 3 attempts to get it running again this morning. Really starting to piss me off now as it is getting colder out and I see this only getting worse.

I found when i changed to the Iridium plugs my cold start improved drastically. Keep us posted and good luck.

could possibly be a vacuum leak on one cylinder like an intake gasket. try spraying the intake gasket area with a little carb spray and see if the idle jumps up. could also be an injector leaking.if the fuel leaks into one cylinder it would flood that cylinder and cause a hard start and it would run rough for a bit after it does start. I would take it to another dealer if possible or have your dealer put another tech on it. the diagnosis is only as good as the tech working on it.

Well there is no other dealer here in the Province and they only have one guy trained on the Buells. He is a good Harley guy. Since this is there first time with the Buells and I have the only lightning here I'll give them some time to figure it out. After it starts it is perfect.

When your cranking the engine, are you getting any smoke out the exhaust?

Does this happen all the time or just after it's been sitting?

Does the tach move while your cranking?

Have you tried to prime the fuel system first, ie- turn on and off the ignition several times letting the fuel pump run each time. Then after several cycles try and start the engine.

It happens after the bike has been sitting overnight or sometimes after it has sat at work all day. Never checked for the other stuff. I don't think I should have to prime it over and over to get it running.

You shouldn't, but checking that could give you an idea as to weather you have a fuel rail pressure problem.

The tach moving could help tell if the timing pickup is working.

Just trying to find clues to help solve your problem, things that you could take to the dealer.

Hey-
It sounded like it fired off on one cylinder. Before it starts to run good, carefully check the pipes near the head & see which is hot first. This can tell you if the problem is a bad part on one cylinder. i'm hoping this will turn out to be something simple. The fact that it runs well warm eliminates big issues.

It usually fires pretty quick but drops one cyliner and dies. Once it starts on the second or third try its good
