Speed/RPM reduced power problem

Rode early this morning in the COOOOLD TEMP (26 deg F., but clear skies) with heated gloves. 2004 XB12R started and sped up normally as it always has. The empty fuel lamp indicator lit up and I filled the tank with PREMIUM on the next Wawa Station about 7 miles ahead. Restarted right up and powered on the heated gloves. At the first stop light and first gear engaged/released clutch I felt a sudden loss of power... 2nd gear...3rd, 4th and fifth... all with reduced power but no other indication of malfunction present. I cruised at 60MPH (5th) in the main highway and 80MPH in the interstate. I hit the traffic and needed to overtake a semi-truck, I signalled and pulled out to the left lane, as I twisted the throttle for gas/speed... nothing came... just maintained the current speed. No increase of speed/RPM was available as I maxed out the throttle travel. There was a stretch of clear highway that it managed to go past 89MPH but that was it. Could it be BAD GAS? I am baffled here. Has anyone had the same experience?

Whoa sounds horrid, tps sensor could be stuck. (Frozen) Other than that on a fuel injected ride I don't know much that would cause an issue like that.

Thanks jamason_2000, I'll try putting few onces of fuel booster/cleaner with fresh tank of PREMIUM gas after work and see what happens. I am hoping that would fix the issue so I wont have to bring it to HD Dealership.... I'll update status as it changes...:(

I know that when I was living in Tennessee during the winter, the injectors on my Sonoma used to have issues. I ended up replacing them and tps reset all worked out. Now winter of 2011 I rode all winter long in Kansas, not a single problem. I'll be honest with you, this one puzzles me. You let it warm up and get to operating temp right?

You check your plug wires had a similar problem would sometimes cut to one cylinder and would be a complete turd I know you didn't say anything like that just giving some thought. I also had a faulty ecm and it would go in and out would sound like someone was shooting a gun at me was a real pain. Hope this helps

I have come to this conclusion after factoring-in the following; overall health of the bike is near oustanding considering it's an 04 with nearly 40k (miles), current temperatures and preventive maintenance... "FREEZING COLD TEMP IS THE CULPRIT"
In the afternoon of that uneventful ride I filled up fresh tank of 93 Octane as usual and add a few ounces of fuel treatment for a good measure, temp rose up around 50F and the bike like nothing happened. I rode the bike a few more weeks in varying temp down to 38 and everything was normal. I garaged the bike for the looong new year weekend with fresh tank of 93 Octane. Today is 15F and I rode to work and boila the same problem occured... RPM indications are good but slow to climb and that was matched by the speed. I never hit over 70 and it decreases power/speed during incline... throttle response is terrible as well.
I'll continue to ride and monitor the perfomance with the varying changes in temperature.
Thank you for the inputs! Ride safe everyone.

Fuel pump could be a huge issue there...... I was considering the factors involved and seeing how I don't deal with those kinds of temps anymore...... I'm in Hawaii for the next 3-5 years. Might be a good time to go ahead and change the pump. I hear that there is one hell of a write up about a alternate replacement for the factory one.
