speedo and odo not working but tach is just fine

just last night my speedo and tach stop working. My tach was working fine the whole time though. I stopped shortly after I noticed the problem and then when I started it back up everything was fine. After I stopped again and turned everything off then back on the same problem happened again. So currently the only thing working is the tach. All the lights work fine just to the right of the tach though. Any ideas what it might be? I spoke with my local buell dealer over the phone and they said to bring it in which i am trying to avoid.

Every time i ride it now the mileage isn't registering on my bike. I think as of right now my bike has about 60 miles more than what the odometer reads haha

I've seen this one on the forum before. I'm reasonably sure he traced it back to a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor. Its right above the drive pulley. Remove it, clean it off, and re-install.

The spedo and odo work off the same VSS signal, lose the VSS you loose both instruments. (explains why the tach still works)

I never bothered fixing mine because I am planning on rearranging the whole console set up and use a GPS as my speedo. Kind of a pain to get to also. Buellysses is right, it is either the speed sensor itself, or one of the connections going to or from it.
