Hey guys,

When I went to start the bike (03 xb9r) my speed wasnt working at all. The rpm is working properly and when I turn the ignition on, both the tach and speedo's needles make their full rotation and return to 0.

Checked ECM spy and no codes are tripped and the bike is running/starting perfectly.....besides the speedometer...

Any ideas?

thanks for your time-- Jason

Ive had mine do that a lot. What really sucks is it'll screw with your milage too. it's a little unnerving to see your low fuel light on and when you look at the miles and it says 50

Would anyone happen to be able to provide me alittle information on what needs to be done regarding the speed sensor?

I'm out of town on business (with the bike) and am unable to thumb through my manual.

thanks-- Jason

Part number: 74431-01 , costs ~$60 it sits on the back/top/right side of the tranny. Really quick fix

I've got one if you need it I replaced it before the end of the season. If you just pay for shipping I give you it.

You can download the manual from the link on the top of the page.

I think the guys are right on with the speed sensor. It may not be a bad idea to check the connection at the VSS make sure it's clean and secure. If you have access to a multimeter, check the continuity of the conductors.

According to the 2005 manual, the three wires go to the ECM's Gray connector. pin 1 - 5v Sensor Power (R/W), Pin 7 - Sensor Ground (BK/W), and pin 8 VSS (W). The white wire also goes to the Spedo cluster pin 16 (W)

It may not hurt to pull the sensor out and clean it as well.
