Sputter egine light on and off speedo reset

Ok so Im new to the Forum but just got my third Firebolt over a 10 year span. Found a 09 with 610 miles on it. Started riding and have had no issues other than difficult starts. Yesterday I took the battery out and found it to be the original Battery from Jan of 2009. Anyway I was riding to work this morning and all of the sudden when I tried to accelerate while at 30 miles per hour it began to sputter and the engine light would come on and the dash would re set. then it would go away. If I tried to accelerate again it would do it again.

it has a hard time starting but once started it idles fine. if I rev it up while sitting the engine light comes on and sputters a little bit.

I have 1100 miles on it now and up until this moment has ran flawless. checked evertying I can, but wondering if a bad battery can cause this problem?[confused]

Yeah. What little juice it has left its using to keep itself charged up. When batteries get old they just get weaker by the day. And then are prone too cold/hot weather to. 09's I think had a recall (might have been the 1125's) with a stator or something. The engine light comes on when electrical stuff goes bezerk to.

yes. and will activate the CEL as well.

thanks, replaced bat and everything is great. Got 1180 miles on her now. Everything all good. Just need to find a stock tool kit and im good to go.
